I've often been asked how I churn out figures (painted to my standard) as fast as I do. So here it is. 20 minutes a figure. olicanalad.blogspot.com |

Do you let the enamels dry between each layer? And do you thin them at all? Most painting tutorials seem to leave out paint consistency and drying, and I think with enamels it could be especially important. Thanks! Rich |

That was cool do you have any tips for doing US Marines for Iraq? |

Great article, thank you. I never consciously leave so much contrast between shading layers like you do, but maybe I should try it. As you call it "deliberate caricature". At table distance it probably looks really good. I've also never used wine red as an undercoat for flesh. I'm definitely going to try that. Thanks for that tip! |

Zagloba, by the time I have finished a stage the paint is usually dry enough for the next layer (it's the main reason for painting in fairly big batches). I add white spirit (by the brush full) as I paint to thin the paint on the pallet as it dries / thickens. I never mix in the tin (as per tin instructions) I pull the pigment straight out of the tin with the brush – it works much better. Irish marine, nope sorry – I'm a pre 20th C only. Donrice, thanks, glad I could help. |

Nice article and nice paint jobs. I once timed myself on a batch of figures and my timing also came out at about 20 minutes per figure. My biggest hold up is not how fast do I paint them, but I do not get to spend enough minutes painting. :-) Thanks for sharing, LLC aka Ron |

Thanks for answering, although buying enamels again might be too weird- I'd have to dig out my old Grenadier and Ral Parthas. Rich |
