In recent discussions in the polls and SF threads I could see that several other people, like myself, preferred the first edition Rogue Trader (40k) Space Marines ("Beakies") with long snouts to the later various incarnations. That being said, if GW (ie. "those who shall not be named") were to re-release a plastic multi-part boxed set of Horus-Heresy period "Beaky" marines, would you buy them? For me thats simple. If they made them in metal boxed sets with ridiculous prices, then "no". If they came in plastic sets that were "affordable", then yes. I would probably actually get about 2x companies worth to be able to re-fight the Horus Heresy period battles with 28mm minis. So, back to the question. If "original" armor styled SM's were released in a plastic set, would you buy them? |

All of my Space Marines are Beakies, the original plastics and metals. I don't think I own any Marines made in the last 10 years or more. The sculpts, even the plastics, have become too busy; I much prefer the simpler look of the original releases. For that reason, I doubt that I'd buy a new boxed set of Beakies, metal or plastic, because the style has changed so much over the years. Even the new plastics don't look "right" next to my old-timers. On the other hand, if they dug out their old steel molds and re-released the original RTB01 plastic Marines, even as a limited offer, I'd pre-order at least 200 Marines-worth, maybe more. I used to love converting the RTB01 Marines, but I hesitate to do so now because unassembled sprues are becoming more and more scarce. |

Dude. When GW is concerned
. you have to use their motto
PRICE IS NO OBJECT! But if the look good, and not tooooooooo pricey, I'd love to get some more!

I'd snatch up some beakies for sure. I've been slowly accumulating beakie heads and studded shoulder pads, but I'd love to go oldschool. |

The new plastics are not "busy" at all. But yes I would buy them. By the way I think you get two beakie heads with the new plastics so if you think $18.00 USD for a beakie marine is a good price feel free to buy them. |

I would like to buy then but fear they would tower over my original beakies. Never did cotton to the storm trooper marine heads. |
| Goldwyrm | 05 Nov 2009 5:54 p.m. PST |
I never got rid of my original beakies and I've still got plenty still waiting after 20 years for assembly and painting. That said, if a plastic box set came out and was the same size (cough, cough- that will never happen) then I might pick some up if the poses had more variety or there were other weapon options. |

I've already got so many
but I'd go for more if they were compatible and the price wasn't insane. Don't see it happening though. |

The only likely scenario is GW releasing a "pre-heresy" kit with MK6 heads, torsos, and shoulder pads compatible with the current Space Marine designs. The old models, while amazing for their time (I still have about 50 on sprue myself) do not meet current GW standards for detail and variety. The "scale creep" isn't too much of an issue for me though. My Dark Angels are still primarily RTB01's, with a few modern "MK6" variant marines mixed in. Some are taller, poses are different, but they work together reasonably well. Especially if you use the old RT bolters on the modern marines and paint them with an identical palette. |

I would buy a box of Beakies tomorrow – love those Beakie boys and regret not getting them when I had the chance |

Shoot I thought this was going to be about 15mm Quar. |
| GoodBye | 06 Nov 2009 12:56 p.m. PST |
I like the Beakies and I liked the Original Imperial Guard, got the Beakies, didn't get the Guard. |
| IronMike | 06 Nov 2009 1:08 p.m. PST |
I'm definitely in the 'beakie' camp. They gave the marines a distinctive non-stormtrooper-wannabe look. |

Funny enough, one of the ideas I was kicking around (for when I won the lottery and suddenly had ~10 million in disposable income to buy a large chunk of GW) was just that: A major release of plastic, pre-heresy Marines, beakie helmets and all. I figure there are a lot of people (ie, everyone with a Space Marine army) that would buy at least a couple squad-sized boxes each, and many would buy significant numbers (like entire companies worth). |

I have a RT Crimson Fists army and agree the old molds should just come out but that would spoil their tournement armies as need for up to date figs. Also is my fluff out of date or is MK6 "beakie" armour not a post heresy thing? Pre heresy is MK1-5 if I remember correctly. |

Jamesonsafari – LOL!!!! Hey, wait a mo' - Space Marines have beaky heads
Quar have beaky heads
AHA! That's what the Space Marines devolve into! Evolutionarily speaking, a step in the right direction. |

No, like many others, I would not buy new ones. For all of their limitations, the old plastic beaky marines are still my favorites. And I have more than I'll ever need or use. I might buy some of the plastic multi-part terminators that were available in the early 90s (they gave out a free one to everyone who called their mail order shop and gave them their address one year!). It's a very nice model – clean and somewhat posable. I have a few, but would love to make a larger group of them with some alternate weapons like an assault cannon
Plastic = good. Simple = good. Cheap = very good. GW might release plastic beakies, but I don't believe that they would be cheap or simple. |
| Rothgar | 09 Nov 2009 12:41 p.m. PST |
No.. I'm done drinking that kool-aid. |
| Grabula | 09 Nov 2009 2:29 p.m. PST |
unlike many others, I think the new miniatures are overall, better then the old uber skinny, non computer modelled are terrible in comparison. I would buy plastic beaks for new plastic marines big time. Right now it's costing me an arm and a leg to do my Crimson Fist project buying those beak helmets at 2$ a pop. Not to mention the apropriate torsos
. |
| Sargonarhes | 09 Nov 2009 4:10 p.m. PST |
No, I'm just not that into 40K any more at whatever price they did it at. I have plenty of other games and miniatures to work with. I've put them behind me and I'm not looking back. |
| Dunadan | 11 Nov 2009 11:15 p.m. PST |
Heck yes! Like others on this thread I am slowly accumulating squads of Mk6 marines (since I am not old enough to own any of the RT01 beakies). It would be even better if GW went with the old prices too to commemorate the release: 30 beak-marines for 9.99 :) |
Uesugi Kenshin | 12 Nov 2009 1:09 a.m. PST |
"30 beak-marines for 9.99" It's nice to dream
.isn't it.
;-) |
| Dijit80 | 12 Nov 2009 8:50 a.m. PST |
It'd have to not only be the helmets, studded shoulder pads and torsos, but also the leg armour. I don't recall Mk6 leg armour in the new plastics. |
| Grabula | 12 Nov 2009 9:55 a.m. PST |
I seem to recall it was 30 for 19.99$? Sam with Orks and IG. Dijit, Leg's are there basically but I couldn't match torsos wit the old RT era marines. There is one that is close but it's not exact. |
| Dunadan | 12 Nov 2009 1:37 p.m. PST |
The new sprue comes with about 4 pairs of MK6 legs IIRC. They're the ones without knee pads. During the heresy the MK7 leg armour was developed, so a mix of knee pads and no-knee pads would still work fine. |

My answer is,,,, Only if they did them in 15mm
