Sometimes I think wargamers, if they pay attention to the history at all, pay too much attention to arquebus ranges and pike formations, and not enough to the cultural background.

I agree with you on how easy it is to lose the context, and I appreciate the pointer to the article.


Having said that, either this article is way late, or someone hasn't done the fact check – his birthday is in July.

Yep – big year for Calvin. Some of the commemorations have been overwhelmingly well-attended.

I'm a Wesleyan myself, so I think Calvin was largely wrong, but no one can deny his importance or overall contribution.

In Our Time just covered the Siege of Munster. Not about Calvin or Calvinists to be sure, but in the general realm of that tumultuous period. So glad all has been reconciled since then. wink
