Yep, your figure IDs are all correct. 1st Corps still has the fort builder and road builder sets; I don't know if they still do the corresponding resin "road under construction" pieces that Phil Stirpe carried when he had the company: those were excellent. I don't see their plashed stake sections listed, either. I believe Si still has the DBA Confused General available, but the Bend Sinister link here has gone Tango Uniform: link The e-mail here may work: link The Old Glory figure is from the excellent Ceasarian command set: link Those selections make a nice grouping. well done! Pity no-one makes a Late Roman set, or sets; camp building & road-work/building parties
The Late Romans DID still build and repair roads, AND they did entrench the army's camp for the night -- at LEAST when they were near the frontier, or in enemy territory!! Admittedly, it also seems whenever possible they would "billet" themselves on the civilian population in fortified towns instead
Still
even Belesarius "dug in" his camps in North Africa when campaigning against the Vandals! |

Nicely done – I will eventually get around to painting this group but as a Pontic or Successor work party. None of those pesky Romans. |

Am tempted to get a couple of these. If I do, I will have to use some "green stuff" (or at least paint) to try at least to make these troopies "late" Early- to Mid-Imperial Romans (150-275AD ~ish)
A little MORE ingenuity, and I may even be able to "suggest" that these are Late-Imperial (300-400AD)
if I can manage to figure out how to make them look somehow "late." Perhaps, use a very thin "roll" of "green stuff" at the sleeve-end to indicate rolled-up sleeves. Either that, or use paint or "green stuff" at the wrist to suggest the short-sleeved tunic is an "over-tunic" being worn over a light-weight long-sleeved tunic? |
