The title says it all really… I am curious to see if any manufacturer will step up to the plate and deliver us some nice resin tabletop pieces! I know GZG does metal accessories and a few small buildings, but there needs to be more!

Anyone else agree?

Totally. This place is contributing some nice stuff, but its not SF specific:
fieldworks.org.uk/15mm.htm

I agree there is a serious lack of choices.
To begin with, we need:

Residential housing/ apartment blocks,
military fortifications,
civilian/ hasty fortifications,
industrial/ factory blocks,
government center buildings,
critical facilities (water plants, radio/tv stations)
space ports/ air fields,
shanty town/ 3rd world buildings,
african/ arab buildings.

Hows that for a start?

There is a range of Sci Fi buildings in the works by a leading 15mm Sci Fi manufacturer, should be available early new year.

Cheers
Mark

Grizwald05 Nov 2009 2:24 a.m. PST

That and the availability of the GZG accessories makes all the more reason to scratchbuild. It's not hard …

Etranger05 Nov 2009 4:09 a.m. PST

Plenty of African & Arab style buildings around, likewise shanty towns (take a look at Timecasts SE Asia range for one). There are some larger modern style buildings around too. It's really only the ultramodern & sci-fi type buildings & structures that are hard to find IMHO.

I always thought that making terrain for 15mm was the easiest scale to work on. I have the most fun making my own so I don't really look for it.

mad mac05 Nov 2009 5:14 a.m. PST

You can also use some of the card stuff available, although nominally 25mm it can be reduced in scal before printing out.

As an example Mel Ebbles Guncrawl stuff springs to mind.

JamesonFirefox05 Nov 2009 5:55 a.m. PST

Buy an already existing model of Arab/African/NW European building and add a widget to the roof from the GZG building accessories (or made from some plastic beads) and you've suddenly got a 24th century Arab/African/European house with a comms antenna.

I agree with tabletopwarrior, SF scenery is the easiest to scratch build, so why not?

Sergeant Crunch05 Nov 2009 7:03 a.m. PST

Doesn't Old Crow offer 15mm buildings?

Only Warlock05 Nov 2009 7:47 a.m. PST

Yes they do Sarge, Office buildings, etc

TheCaptainGeneral05 Nov 2009 8:51 a.m. PST

Scratch building is good if you have time! I am a student so any free time I have for my hobby I like to spend painting and keep assembly to a minimum!

I just thought that with the rise in 15mm scifi gaming there would be a rise in terrain. And this post was also to hear if any companies would be developing terrain! (Thank you Mark!)

Jamesonsafari05 Nov 2009 8:54 a.m. PST

Most precast terrain you have to paint, perhaps even assemble.
Adding some GZG gizmos and widgets (or even bits found at the hardware store) to a plastic box to turn it into a SF building isn't much different. could be cheaper too. Most students I know are short on money.

"Scratch building is good if you have time! I am a student so any free time I have for my hobby I like to spend painting and keep assembly to a minimum!"

I started wargaming when I was at school. I did a lot of scratch building then because I didn't have much cash and what I had I wanted to spend on figures and paint. More so when I was a student.

How times have changed …

I emailed a popular-hereabouts gaming manufacturer about laser-cutting some 15mm building components (walls, roofs, etc.) out of 3mm plywood, but they said that there really wasn't any demand for them, as most people want terrain with details and greeblies on it.

It's too bad, really; with Pictor's Studio dropping their building blanks line a few years ago, there really isn't any constructible or modular terrain for the 15mm sci-fi/moderns market.

For ruins, of course, there's Amera Mouldings. Good stuff.

the CG – I'm working on some stuff I'm going to try to get produced: link

As noted, ideally I'll be able to make about 6-8 'matching pieces', various types of buildings with the same general look. Each building will also ideally come with a small set of bits to add detail as you see fit. I'm hoping to start getting casts made by end of the month on the first couple of structures.

Grabula – looking good! The embryo of a nice range there. Please keep us posted!

Yeah, DH, I am excited about this upcoming terrain line you mentioned!

Monkeyborg Dirtside05 Nov 2009 2:17 p.m. PST

Me too!

A leading 15mm SF supplier, eh? Hmmm… (ponders who that may be)

Cyclops05 Nov 2009 2:45 p.m. PST

Grab some middle eastern buildings and stick on some of GZG's accessories. Instant SF low tech colony.

Monkeyborg Dirtside05 Nov 2009 3:55 p.m. PST

But not everyone wants a sci-fi Baghdad. There's more to sci-fi than desert worlds.

And what about high tech colonies?

Just a few more sci-fi designs would be nice. All we have at the moment is office blocks and prefab bunkers.

khurasanminiatures05 Nov 2009 4:28 p.m. PST

Pretty sure it's CMG. I think JBR is working on it so it should be really nice stuff!

TheCaptainGeneral05 Nov 2009 6:04 p.m. PST

Awesome work Grabula! That is what I am looking for!!!

Von Trinkenessen06 Nov 2009 5:11 a.m. PST

I would like some sci fi defence works, there's only so much you can do with WW2 emplacements!!

khurasanminiatures06 Nov 2009 7:09 a.m. PST

Don't know about you fellows but for me this is one of two threads total on the TMP sci fi boards! grin

Grabula06 Nov 2009 8:42 a.m. PST
