I have ordered some of the economy 25mm x 25mm bases from Gale Force 9 for my Perry and Victrix plastic Napoleonics. In the past all of my figures and bases have been metal so I have used either epoxy or some CA type glue for mounting but since I've never worked with wood and plastic before I'm unsure of the best route. Can anyone with experience of these two materials let me know what the best bonding agent I can use would be?

Thanks

I usually use hot glue to mount my figs. Easier to remove if I rebase.

Thanks,

John

White glue is easier to use and is not permanent.

Yeah, white like Tacky glue is pretty good. Only issue is the set up time. Somtimes it isn't feasible.

Thanks,

John

I'm using white tacky glue for my plastics, but sometimes wish I'd used a glue gun, as suggested above. Once you put ground cover around the figure, it won't move, but the tacky glue alone sometimes has a little "flex" in it, and my soldiers will occasionally pop off. Not often, though.

Use Goop(tm)

I bought this E-6000 or something like that from Wal-Mart. It seems to bond great for plastic to wood, or wood to wood, and metal to wood. But not so great but still pretty good for plastic to metal. Though it does stink pretty bad until it dries. I switched to glueing figures to their bases outdoors for a hour or so a day while I wait for my daughters bus to drop her off.

I always use UHU for sticking figures (plastic or metal) to bases.

Super Glue all the way…mounted 1000's of figs w/ it…plastic & metal both….want to remove the figs later? Just take two needle nose pliers (one on each side of the wooden base), twist, and wallah, the figs pop right off…

White glue. The bond if flexible and strong, and if you ever need to rebase, just soak in water overnight and voila.

It's got to be super glue.

copydex – rubber, contact adhesive. Easy to remove and strong.

"No More Nails"

Always does the job for me.

I use superglue. And you might want to consider painting the underside of the wood to prevent warping.

stenicplus06 Nov 2009 4:37 a.m. PST

I second copydex.

I agree with John Leahy hot glue its quick and easy and the men come right off after painting…

Hot glue. I just did a bunch of Perry figs and glued them to the wood bases using hot glue gun. Do the same for metal figs.Never had an issue.

PVA gets my vote.

trailape04 Dec 2011 8:46 p.m. PST

Some super glue causes 'frosting', so beware.

I use white glue for painting bases, but if the figure is to be mounted on a unit base with texturing I use Duco Household cement. The white glue is easy to "pop" the figure off when I am finished painting. I don't however want the figure to come off a base that I spent time finishing. These are metal figures, but the base is what I'm talking about. The Duco works on metal, plastic, wood.
