Hello, I'm going to play Battletech again after an hiatus of several years and wanted to see what's available on mats with hexes.

Which manufacturers do you know?.

Thank you in advance.

Hotz Art Works does custom mats (i.e., color, size of hex, etc.). I know there are some producers out there that make standard size mats and hexes as well – Chessex? Not sure if they're still around but strikes me they do/did.

Get yourself 3 starter sets of Heroscape. You get a playing surface and 3D hills all for around $60-$100 dollars for the three sets. You can get those play Battletech and get tired of it before you receive a Hotzmat you ordered.

I use a Hotz Mat for my WWI air games and Battletech.

Nice product!

Hotz here as well, great product worth the wait for delivery IMHO. Kallistra is an option.

I concur with Deeman. HeroScape sets are NICE. I use them with MechWarrior too

Monday Knight Productions still carries all of their hexed mats and the 1 1/2" hexes are the perfect size for playing classic battletech.

I got my Monday Knight Productions mat cheaper and quicker than my Hotz mat. The Hotz mat is sturdier.

Thank you very much for all your help with these recommendations, now I have to study all of them to make a decision.

Thank you very much. :^)

BTW, I see with Heroscape could be a solution but for the rest, ¿how do you make hills, mountains and elevations for the hexed mats?.

Deeman04 Nov 2009 11:30 a.m. PST

Make your own foam hills. A friend of mine makes hills identical to the layouts on BT maps. I think there are some sellers of hex terrain out there. You can mark what elevation each hex is suppose to be, but this makes a frustrating game for me personally.
