We've discussed the appearance of 'Zealots' recently but I've wondered, looking at the nice Berbers made by ARTIZAN & MDS if these wouldn't be appropriate for hard-core Zealot desert bandits whose environment would predicate sterner gear than the urban or peasant Zealot
Given the links to Jewish communities in Parthia, I'm not convinced trousers are totally out of place for C1st/C2nd AD 'Zealots' What do people think? Feasible or drivel? |

Well, I'd say that's up to you. Yep, both Artizan's and MDS's Berbers have trousers under their robes or tunics. That doesn't seem to me too typical of c.1st-2d dress, although it would work later on for desert types in the region, assuming Parthian/Syrian influence, as you say To me, the Berber 'imama (turban) and hzam (sash) convey a sense of a different place and time than Judaea. They just look, well
Berber! But if they look OK to you, then look at swapping shields, and go with it. Allen |

I think they would work, also check out Castaway who has some in robes. |

The Judaean desert is pretty inhospitable & the Dead Sea desert is really very hostile indeed. I'd be convinced you'd need pretty heavy protective garb

Not to have the last word or anything, but I noticed that someone wrote: "
temperature is pretty relative
Past generations grew up without footwear & ended up inured to ground conditions that would cripple us." And I would say the same regarding the Judaean and Jordanian desert. You can go back just to the last century and find Bedouin about with little in the way of protective clothing. But as I said: if that looks right to you, go for it. Pardon me, but I have to go paint some blue Smurfs
erm, Picts. Allen |
