I have been thinking about doing Crimean war for about 15 years and I wa thikning about a campaign where you have a few British commanders and they must represent the infighting and downright contempt for each other like in real life. But how to do this?
I thought a classic example would be to have one player play as Lucan (Lord Look-on)and one as Cardigan. As Scarlett was more inclined to follow orders Lucan can control the heavy brigade. How could i make sure the players carry on like them?

A random element about obeying orders?

Say
1-4 He does what he's told.
5-6 He chooses.

For a different character
1-2 He obeys orders
3-6 He chooses

Use a Matrix Game format, and limit the matrix of words/actions available to each player. The word/actions matrix would of course reflect each characters unique temperament. Then you, as umpire, could weigh each argument and award points based on how close the player is following the historical actions line. The player with the highest points total has their action happen sooner than lower scored players. Competition to achieve goals should sway players to conform to your model.

It's more complicated but could reward players if they read up on who they are and what they did historically.
