So I was looking at the ships for Uncharted Seas today at my LGS, and looking at the Human Imperial Battleship, the first thing that popped into my mind was…"It looks like a naval version of Battlefleet Gothic"…

So am I the only one that thinks this?

You are not.

That was my first impression.

The damage system is very reminiscent of Full Thrust.

I played a game not long ago, and though it was fun it doesn't hold a candle to Man o' War OR BFG.

And I don't like the models nearly as well, either. They are very nice but just not as much my cup of tea as the MoW ones.

Seriously. If I want a fantasy naval game, it will be something like build your own predread fleet. I liked Ironclads and Etherflyers myself.

"The damage system is very reminiscent of Full Thrust."

Full Thrust is very reminiscent of Sea Strike!

Well, Sea Strike is very reminiscent of War at Sea!

Ok, it's not, but I wanted to keep that roll going.

Goober31 Oct 2009 2:51 a.m. PST

The shooting and hitting is like Full Thrust (but then hit on a 4 or 5, double on a 6 and chance for re-roll is hardly unique to that), but the damage is not.

I like some of the fleets, the shroud mages, the undead Orcas for the bone griffons and the Orcs, but others leave me cold.

I'm with Nazrat, the game doesn't hold a candle to MoW. I admit I have a huge bias towards MoW (I'm one of the mods for The Sea of Claws Yahoo! group), but I *really* wanted to like Uncharted Seas.

As for the fleets, there are a few inidividual "ships" that I like – as Goober says, the undead orcas/whales are very cool – but most leave me cold.

And I'm still not happy with the decision to go with 1/600 scale for the ships, roughly twice the size of MoW ships. Unnecessary, and it makes the ships *way* more expensive than they should be.

Good game. Fun.

We've had fun with it.

Not really played those other games, we sort of thought it was like B5 ACTA, but felt ACTA was more fun.
