Hopping across the ditch for a few days in January and was wondering if someone could comment if there are any (non GW) gaming shops in Sydney besides Tin Soldier/Napoleons in York St and the boardgame shop on Pitt St. Saying near Parramatta, I beleive there was a gaming shop out there a few years ago but last time I was there in 2005 all we found at the address was a large hole where they were building/expanding the local mall. Thanks for any info you can provide. Cheers |

Not much in Parramatta, Tin Soldier used to have a store there but it's long gone. There is a GW there though. You have Battlecraft Games in Eastwood which is realtively close. They stock FoW and GW as far as minis are concerned. You have Empire Games in Marsfield, very small shop but it's the retail front of an extensive online store so they have lots of stock, just not lots of space. Best to check their website for what is stocked beyond FoW and GW. These guys are 10% of RRP across the board, bit more for some ranges. If you're after boardgames I'd go here and avoid Games Parasites, the Pitt St store you mentioned. There's Unlimited Hobbies in Blacktown which is a good store with a good range of miniatures and boardgames. Tin Soldier isn't anywhere near as good as it used to be, but it's pretty much the benchmark in Sydney. I'd go Tin Soldier and Unlimited, but our public transport system is screwed like no other so expect the trip between the two to be about two hours, shorter by car (expensive by Taxi). |

There's also a chain of GW and CCG stores that are best avoided unless you really want GW and CCG games. Can't recall their name, but they've got stores in the CBD and Burwood. What are you looking for? |

Thanks for the replies McWong 73 Not after anything in particular, but last time I was in Sydney the stores I went to such as Tin Soldier had a much wider range of stuff than you can get here (not into FoW or GW). As I play a lot of 6mm usually get stuff from Spiritgames in the UK (who are utterly fantastic to deal with, though they no longer have ready access to H&R stuff unfortunately) or GHQ/CinC (ocasionally when the exchange rate is good). |

You won't find anyone carrying GHQ/CinC in Sydney, but if you can get to Canberra going to Olympian Games is a must do. They carry pretty much everything the retailers don't, i.e everything of interest. Olympian carries micro armour and covers nearly all scales for nearly all periods. If you can do it I'd reccomend you're better off coming over and attending Cancon or MOAB, all the traders you're interested in with the brands and ranges that tickle your fancy will be there. Cancon is on and around the 26th of January so if you're going to be around head to Canberra for the largest wargaming hobby event in Australia, especially for traders. MOAB, which has the same traders but in a smaller space, is on the first weekend of October every year. Tinnies has some left overs and parts of ranges – fair bit of 10mm I noticed, but no complete ranges or periods. Hardly any 6mm mind you. |
