You should be proud
very nice wargame scenics. Are they textured with spackle or something similar? |

Cool -- love to see a primer showing how they were done, step by step. |

Looking good! We need material references for the roofs, chimney, and corners? What did you use and how did you make them? Out with it, and keep making more! |

Thanks for the comments guys. These are pretty simple to make, I think. Just cut the foamboard out and glue the pieces together to make the type of structure you want. You can cut the windows & doors out first if you want too. You can be very precise with your measurments for the pieces & window but I just kind of eyeball it to save time. I don't do any spackling or anything like that. The corners and details are just bits of card stock, plastic card, wood dowels etc, whatever is at hand. I did use plastruct roofing for the roofs -- Its 1/87 scale but it looks ok.. Other than that, I used some left over bits from plastic model kits like the arched doorway. Also, I cut up some of the brick road from a Matchbox Monty's Caravan and put it on the sides of the hotel to give the effect of exposed brick – this is easy to do: Just get your scrap of brick, then draw an outline of it on the building, then gently cut the top piece of paper out of the foam board and then put a little glue in there and press it into place so that it sits a bit lower than the card. You can draw cracks in the wall with an exacto blade as well.. The chimney was the most time consuming.. This was also plastruct siding, I just cut the piece to size for the chimney, and then kind of folded it to fit on the building, then glued it down
but I had to use some pins to hold it in place for while until the glue dried
You can also use pins when you're doing the initial building construction to keep it in place while drying.. Painted the whole thing with cheap craft paints and stuck on a couple of scrap decals I had left.. Now I wish I had done some photos during the process for a tutorial .. |

Very nice work. I've done some foam core buildings for my WW2 gaming in the same scale you did. If you want a quick way of adding texture to the walls go to a building center and get a roll of textured and paintable wallpaper. It can easily be glued onto the walls with white glue and then painted. The other thing I did too was to take my exacto knife and auger in some bullet holes on the walls. |
