Please note the following event. We would be very interested in hearing from people able to give demonstrations or talks and lectures on military history of all periods at this event. Mal Wright Salus populi suprema lex (safety of people the highest law) AUSTRALIAN WARGAMES AND MILITARY HISTORICAL CONVENTION Saturday 3rd and Sunday the 4th of April 2010 Finally a family friendly wargames convention and with good food and wine! People have been saying there needs to be a convention in Australia that has good food, a pleasant venue and plenty for the family to do. So I am pleased to announce that there will be one in the magnificent Fleurieu Peninsular wine and tourist region at McLaren Vale in South Australia. This will be a special event that takes into account that the people interested in our hobby often have to balance family matters and their gaming. Situated just south of Adelaide in a prime tourist region the weekend offers not only a wargames convention, but also lots and lots of things for the whole family to do. What a great way for the whole family to relax over Easter! By having it in the two middle days of the Easter Weekend it leaves one day either side for travel or exploring the region. During the event it will be possible for family not taking part to catch tourist buses, or drive themselves to the magnificent beaches, animal conservation centre, walking trails, historic sites, Victor Harbour, Granite Island, wineries, weekend markets etc. An easy drive will allow visitors from other states to tour the city of Adelaide itself. Alternatively public buses run from the area to the city and trains. Accommodation in the area should cover all budgets. There are caravan parks, cabins, Motels, hotels and tourist resorts. Special deals are being negotiated and information will be available later. Accommodation can be among the beautiful rolling grapevines or at the many beach side towns, all of which are connect to the venue by good roads. There are wonderful places to dine in the region and again range from the very best, to those suited for a budget. Trade stalls at the event. We already have some of the best, including Nic Robson from EUREKA and will continue working on this during coming weeks, including some companies outside Australia. We want to make this the ultimate convention experience and one that the whole family will love. Food will be catered by the McLaren Vale Bocce club. So far there is promise of lovely pasta and barbecue food, salads and cakes. Something for everyone and not your usual sausage sizzle in sight! Events are intended to cover all aspects of the wargames hobby. Clubs and individuals are already being invited to put on wargames at the event, along with plenty of prizes and trophies. ANCIENTS. MIDDLE AGES. SEVEN YEARS WAR. COLONIAL. NAPOLEONIC, WW1 AND WW2 land PLUS NAVAL WARGAMING A special Yahoo web site will shortly be set up. The file area and the site itself will be used to provide information on accommodation, tourist sites, and games to be played. Questions will be able to be answered and help given for those that need assistance. link link For those wanting to peek at the beautiful region in which the event will be held, please use your search clicked on Australia, and enter South Australian Southern Vales region, or McLaren vale wine region. "How many tables will GW and their players be allowed to have?" About 100, further down the road at the Peddlers Creek rubbish tip. |

Move the convention to VEGAS !!! Wot a silly little Tin Dictator! Then you wouldn't have the fantastic wine district as a venue. |
| Rudysnelson | 29 Oct 2009 4:29 p.m. PST |
I wish your convention the best of luck. I am curious as an American are your shows more like the UK trade venues or the USA gaming show with vendors? By the name I assume the American style. |

Man
I might have to seriously think about this
2008 we visited the "other side" of Australia
This is about the same time we went then
What a great excuse! :) |

This will be the inaugural event. I intend that it will not be too much like other conventions in this country. I want people to go home feeling they have had a bloody good time in general, as well as the wargaming. We have a growing list of traders, so I hope it will be a good strong number. Many wargamers here tend to go along for the trade stands. Others for the games. Some for both. I also want lots of time for people to meet and chat. At the usual convention the only get to snatch a few moments here and there. We will be having a leisurely barbecue dinner and wine tasting on the Saturday evening of the event, which I hope attendee's will use as a chance to socialize and strengthen friendships. |

Cool! It'd be fun to head over to SA for this. I won't know for sure if I can attend until closer to the date, but this is something to plan for. Onya Mal! This is a good thing. |

Onya Mal! This is a good thing And the support if pouring in too! A lot of people have been saying for a long time that someone should do something like this. So I decided it was time. We already have a good trader base, and sponsors. |

I have managed to arrange a bus, so that on the weekend concerned we can transport people around to visit the various wineries etc. Pick people up at the airport and so on. |
| GoodBye | 30 Oct 2009 9:43 a.m. PST |
I wish you luck Mal and also wish I could attend. Sadly with children in college the travel budget is a bit strained. |
Mal Wright | 30 Oct 2009 4:38 p.m. PST |
Thanks for all the good wishes. There has been little but warm responses and offers of help. Its good to know people in the wargames hobby are still strong. |
| Waco Joe | 30 Oct 2009 5:29 p.m. PST |
Hey Mal! I've heard of a naval convoy game coming out that I thought about adapting to the GW universe. It would have dark elf griffin riders raiding a dwarf beer convoy. Could this be an event in your con?

Sorry couldn't resist. Too much cerveza. |
Mal Wright | 30 Oct 2009 6:07 p.m. PST |
Dear Waco Joe. It is possible that such an event could be permitted but it is likely that it would only be approved or played after a major exposure to the wine tasting and an over indulgence. |
| wrgmr1 | 30 Oct 2009 10:27 p.m. PST |
Best of luck with this convention Mal. If I could, I would. |

AND----the venue is within walking distance
.or staggering distance of three wineries where they do free tasting! With a reasonable walk of several others too. I inspected the venue today. Really large. I now also have an 'event coordinator' who will be in charge of helping wives and children find things to do. A big Easter Egg hunt and so forth. She is also arranging the wine tasting and will generally make sure that all the things outside wargames, happen the way visitors will wish. Several game masters are now signed up and will present a whole range of historical games. We have one overseas personality attending to give some talks and even run a wargame or two. |
