I will be pciking some up at Fall-In. I already have a few BF ones, and will fill in with Old Glory, because I like a varied look. An interesting variant is that in Ostfront, you need 8 extra loaders to double your rate of fire, while in Fortress Europa, you only need 5. Not to worry, I will use one scheme for both. I may be crazy, but I am not nuts. Anyway, how do the Cool Kids handle Katyushas? I can think of several options: Put the truck on a single large artillery base, surrounded by loaders. Truck on a large base, loaders on another. Put the loaders on a large base, but keep the truck off the base, but adjacent. Base 5 loaders on a medium base, truck adjacent. This may not be "legal", though. BTW, 88s and Lancia 90s would seem to have the same issues. However, there is a model 88 that has the loaders on the same base. |

The rules, IIRC, only state that you need to "model with loaders", but don't really specify how. There is a definite downside to making any part of the battery larger than it needs to be, since a hit on the crew stand would count against the Katy as well. Smart guys would have the crew hanging off the rockets, I suppose. :) I put the loaders on a medium base and position it adjacent to the Katy vehicle. The OG trucks really look squashed in comparison to the BF ones. Take one along for comparison before buying, unless your variety includes gross differences in the same vehicle. I've been tempted to graft the rocket assembly onto other truck platforms for that variety myself. - Bob |

I am not Cool. Launcher on a large base with five crew for the new interpretation. Plus a supply truck on a second large base with three more crew to play them as they should be done! I don't care about providing a larger footprint and attracting indirect fire. I only need to get off one Katyusha strike. Spend your artillery taking them out instead of attriting my infantry; I'd love that. To really look right, AIM's Katyushas on Studebakers look the bees's knees; I need to get some. And then OG Studebaker supply trucks should be a good match. Allen |

Allen. I just scoured the AIM site, and can't find them. Do you have a link? They will likely be at Fall-In. |

Courtesy of TMPer miscmini, who sent me this when I had mentioned it a few months ago: picture I would say something about updating Web sites, but as I have become much more sentitized to issues of getting hobby projects moving along when there are medical issues to overcome, I'm not saying anything! Just hope this gets Dave at AIM some business, and again, thanks to miscmini for sending it to me. Allen |

I hope he brings a bunch to Fall-In. |

John, he will not be attending Fall In so you might want to get in touch and order directly from him. |

You have to love the Katyusha delivery system. I have always imagined a conversation somewhere on the other side of the Urals that went something like: Igor-"Well, Ivan, we have now built truck factory!" Ivan-"And we have finished rocket making facility also!" Igor-"Uncle Josef will be very proud of us!" Ivan-"Da! But what do you think we should do with pile of assorted left over I-beams?" Igor-"Hmmmmmmmmmm
" Sort of a Reese Peanut Butter cup moment, except with Studebakers, scrap metal, solid rocket fuel, and high explosives. :-) Doug |

Those look great – anything else not on their website that's in 15mm ground? On the original topic, I would have the loading crew (5 or 8, depending on how many spares one had) placed adjacent to the truck, each on it's separate base. |

Ostfront uses a separate base with figures that is separately targettable as a team, and the newer method simply requires them as a marker of the upgrade (like they have always done 88s in V2). For me, that says stick some loaders on a base and use it as a base for Ostfront lists and use it as a marker for the more recent lists. Same base does both jobs. If you want to base the new ones then I have seen people suggest that you make a base with loaders on and space for the truck, which you do not glue down. Put the truck on the base when you have loaders and whip the base away for those games where you have no loaders. |

I have my BF Katy's on a base, then I based the loading crew on another base. :) |
