I stumbled across this game the other day via a TMP advertisers link and quite liked the look of the figures.

I was and still am a huge Slaine (2000ad comic) fan and have always thought that a refight of the climatic battle in "The horned god" would be awesome.

I am keen to hear your thoughts on the game play of the rules system. If the game is dud I will probably just buy some of the figures to paint for fun but if it turns out the rules are good fun may throw myself into it for my next full scale project I undertake.

Thanks for any advice good or bad.

Cheers

Chris

Sorry I've not played the game but i do have some of the figures and i agree they'd be great for Slaine – they have a great comic/cartoon element which isn't just from the over sized weapons.

It's basically the old Void rules tuned to fantasy, it was from Urban Mammoth before they sold it off to Brigade models. The game is quite good but the army lists are a bit odd at times. Figures are nice and now easier to get&less expensive.

The miniatures are very, very nice. Recommended!

Thanks for your comments guys. I think i'll be investing soon then.

One other thing you may be able to help with. In the rules are alliances allowed between factions? The reason I ask is; I really like the Fir Bolg "Horned one" character and some of the zombies and would love to add them to a mainly Fomorian army if this is allowed?

Cheers

Chris

I haven't played the game, but I love the minis. They definitely have a very Slaine-like feel. I've often thought of coupling a Gael army with the Slaine minis from Foundry.

Hi Mc Lovin

I dont have celtos but it might be worth your while to take a look at Erin from Alternative armies, celtic myth based skirmish.

To; jpattern2. Funnily enough I had thought how I might encorporate the Foundry Slaine and Uko in!

To; Kreoseus. Thanks, i'll take a look.

Chris

Found it to be a very fun game, with lots of fantastic miniatures. Also if you can get your hands on a paper copy of the rules then you are in for a treat, as it is one of the most beautiful books I have ever had the privilege of owning. However I would not recommend using the one army book that was made. Instead stick to the lists in the main rulebook for best balance.

The rules work really well, small warband (hero plus followers) 6 to 8 figure units. Printed in Celtic font which takes a little bit of getting used to.

Game uses d10 plus/minus combat and situation modifiers, all figures individually 25mm round based but move and fight as a "unit" by remaining touching bases. Roll to hit, roll to wound type mechanisms.

The force lists in the rulebook are generally good and all balanced to each other. The later "army book" expansions suffered from power creep and were not complete.
For what you want the base rulebook is enough.

If you cannot find a copy locally I have one in vgc for sale, £6.00 GBP plus shipping from Spain.

Thanks for the detailed run down RobH. What's the postage from Spain to London, UK?

Brigade models are now selling this range and have rules books for £10.00 GBP + 75p postage. Depending on postage from Spain might be slightly cheaper to buy yours.

Cheers, Chris

The later "army book" expansions suffered from power creep and were not complete.

Interesting use of the plural there, RobH – there only ever was the Gael book.

I have not tried the rules, but the figures have tempted me for quite a while now. They never seem to make it onto my purchase list, though.

Love the figures – I have a substantial Fir Bolg list, almost all painted – but game never caught on where I am at, so they are just waiting in storage.

They made a HUGE mistake with the celt font for the rulebook; while it lends to atmosphere, it makes for difficult reading and takes a long while to get used to.

there are actually two editions of the Rulebook;
the first printing is in that crazy Runic Font,
the second printing is much more sensibly readable.
They have the same stock number, so <shrug>
