I've just spoken up for Peter Pig miniatures, and their standard of service to Australia, in another thread. Now, I'm curious. How many of you out there have bought from PP in the past, or recently, and how do you rate the experience?

On a separate note (also addressed in the other thread), does anyone know if there is an actual, for real, stock holding distributor for PP minis in Australia?

I am in Perth, WA and have brought from both PP and the Australian dist recently.

Main problem with the Aust distributor is that his stock levels can be a bit hit or miss. If he hasn't got it in then it can take 2 mths for him to order and supply it. The price can vary depending how the A$ vs pound is going. When the A$ is high then direct to PP is cheaper.

I have bought 95% of my PP from England. Great service, usually takes 5 business days from placing the order to getting the figures in your letter box. Postage costs are good. Had one problem when they sent a wrong pack but they fixed it up straight away. Downside, they charge VAT. All round, great service which I highly recommend.
Micks Metal Models is another great service if he has the figures in stock, otherwise you will be waiting. He only stocks WW2.

Got them sent from UK to NZ with no hassle and good service but as usual with all "rest of the world" orders by many other companies the postage cost rather than the delivery time is the killer

Mick at Mick's Metal models is a nice guy and honest trader. Contact him for stock levels of what you want.

I buy directly from the UK. Swift turnaround & no problems for me. I've always found Martin to be very helpful with my somewhat esoteric orders!

Hi
I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND Mick's Metal Models!
Top bloke and excellent service.

Madmike1:

I think stock shortages for distributors here are a major hassle from both points of view. As customers, we don't want to wait, and the suppliers don't want to take chances with the demon dead stock (anyone remember the garage Battlefield at Campsie operated out of?). The way the AUD is against the Pound Sterling right now, I almost wish I'd waited.

rat of tobruk:

5 days! Geez, the record to me is 6. If you're in Perth, I can accept it, otherwise, I feel cheated… :) But VAT? I don't think I've ever been charged for that. I'll have to check the next time I'm invoiced. If Micks has only their WWII range, he'd have lost me at the start. All I've got is moderns, with a handful of WWII for potential headswaps.

valleyboy:

Yes, I used to think "Rest of the World" was retail-speak for "no, we can't be bothered sending piddly little orders to… where?" Still, back when no one in Australia (or NZ either, I believe) carried either GHQ Micro Armor or Platoon 20, one bit one's lip, and paid for the shipping.

MWright:

Herein may lie our problem, as stated above. If Mick's only carries WWII, and he may have to order in, and it even takes, say a month, after this many years, I'd probably be content just ordering direct.

Huw R Davies:

*Chuckle* Yes… anybody else ever order single figures, or try to get a pack with just the one pose in it? Not PPs fault. Must be just a little annoying, at some level, to slot singles requests in… we can be a peculiarly demanding lot.

I'm guessing Micks Metal hasn't been carrying Peter Pig out here for that long (anybody?). Are we in agreement then that, given the service we've seen here from the manufacturer direct, that orders from Australia aren't likely to taper off anytime soon? I wish Micks Metal joy, but wish he'd been carrying moderns (if in fact, he does not). But sadly, as I've just clicked on the Peter Pig button on his site to look for stock and prices, all I get for a result is "This Category is currently empty".

How do I find out what he actually has on hand (see above)?

email him at the address provided.

I have ordered ancients from Mike only last week

Thanks for that, I'll give him a try. :) The website itself wasn't too helpful.
