Right I'm ready to play, just got to do the posses. For the heros it says they start with 8 exp points, does this mean that you roll for the four advances before the first game (I giess yes but wanted to check). Once I've played I'll let you know how it went, I'm hoping for quick action! |

I think it is assumed they have already had the advances and you just mark off the boxes on the rosta |

And good luck with the game! I've been spending this evening wondering why I felt the need to not only collect far more old west models than I'll ever use in 28mm, but also do the same in 15mm. I'm sure it made sense at the time

The posse leaders do not get 4 advance rolls. That initial XP is simply to slow down the leader's advancement (8XP is the point where heroes go from needing 2 XP for an advance to 3). The same sort of thing happens in Necromunda, Mordheim and presumably Legends of the High Seas, all of which use the same sort of advancement rules. |

Yes- you do not get an advance. I have communicated to Mark Latham that this is not explained clearly enough in the rules
good idea to join the yahoo forum where you can get similar queries answered by Mark himself. |

It's not clear in Necromunda or in Mordheim either. To be fair, neither I nor anyone I play against even considered that initial experience gave you advances until I read that question on the Yahoo! group. |

It's the confusion of starting on a threshold. |

Reading through Mordheim, the only GW rules I've ever thoroughly read, I didn't think it was clear either. I wondered if I rolled for skills or whatever for the captains and such. |

My first games, my mate & I couldn't decide whether you rolled for an advance your first pre-game or your first post-game. Turns out we were utterly wrong & you don't roll at all (I skipped an advance later when I was corrected so my desperado is now 'kosher') That does emphasise how unclear the concept is in the rules. |

they are pretty well de-bugged now. |
