Anyone got any thoughts on these rules?

AOMAS: I have played HOTT and enjoy it but am interested in playing bigger fantasy games and i think it would start to annoy me when the base count gets very high. I am also keen to find something which goes beyond the bd, cav, kn, behemoth etc categorisation and allows for fantasy races to have traits.

Is this the answer to my dreams until I get a chance to work on the FOG mod Fields of GORY I have simmering in the back of my head?

ASQL: Have never played a sci fi game like this, is it fun? I would prob be looking to play with my son's who are 10 and 13. Only 15mm Scifi i have ever played was Lazerburn some 20 years ago, but I appreciate this will be little if anything like that.

Am used to the bases of minis concept for historical games and i LOOOOOOVE all the new Rebel minis, Khurasan and GZG stuff that is coming out and would like to get a couple of "small" forces on the table.

I am asking cos I am going for the free pack of minis offer to add to my eldest's already sizeable Orc force and i would feel like a cad not to buy something to go with.

So in short, are either of these rule sets worth getting?

AOMaS is a simple game. Units are 6+ bases/elements per unit. Combat is resolved with the cast of a single d6 + modifiers. Winner kills that many bases over the target number. Winner takes the target number in casualties. bases are casualties.

Unit has to dice to see what happens every time it wants to move. Similar to Fire and Fury but resolved with a single D6.

The game is simple and is designed to be played with a huge number of bases.

Will you like it? You play Field of Glory so I am going to say no. This game is not a detailed game. It looks to be a very fun game and is pretty well thought out. It just may not be the game for you.

I do not know a thing about Alien Squad Leader.

For a review of ASL see the latest Dropship Horizon blog, it should cover what you want.
I know nothing about AOMaS

Mighty Armies by Rebel Minis has racial attributes, army lists and various spells. It plays very close to HOTT.
Go talk to Rebel Mike at mightyarmiesonline.info or visit his store at rebelminis.com

Hey Dropship, love your site, specially the laserburn marines in the header, takes me waaaay back. Maybe this will be a new project for next year, i am very keen on the quick to set up and play games for the kids, we dont have a lot of time after the youngest kids have gone to bed.

Wargamer1972, same year as my birth, yours as well? I looked at Mighty armies, in fact i was trying to get on the playtesting but never heard back. Mike seems a good chap, maybe i will drop him a line.

Yes.

You can pick a pdf download of Mighty Armies from Rebel Minis for only $4.95. Very good bargain. I come up with my own point system for use with it and made my own armies and an extra spell to play. I can't seem to leave any game alone I have to tinker with the rules and add to or take away to suit my gaming desires.

also, AoMaS is quite incoherent and has quite a few things that are difficult to figure out. the point system is very off. and i find the way anything except vanilla troops are treated in AoMaS far from well thought out.
armies are very generic, there is no "chrome".

all in all, i was very disappointed by the game.

Although they can be used for any game setting, my Pelagic Dominate line was designed to fit the Alien Imperial list in ASQL.

hello!
Has anyone army lists for ASQL, featuring the classic armies from WH40K (plus Squats)?
