I would just like to know how many out there game AWI in 40mm. Rules used, basing, size of units, etc. I got a LARGE amount of S&S figs on Ebay not too long ago, and may want to give gaming in it a go. Thanks all! Bob C. |

T Meier is working on that sort of project for him and his son Theo to play. you might see what ruleset he plans to use. I suspect it will be something homegrown tough. the figures he's making are (as usual) top notch. picture |

Here are some pictures of 40mm AWI gaming at The Miniature Service Center: link Doug will send you a free copy of the rules we use if you drop him an e-mail. |

TSS guys do a lot of AWI in 40mm as Chris of Sash and Saber is a member. They often run 40mm games at HMGS-East conventions. VR James Mattes |

I do 40mm AWI. I have my figures based on fender washers and then place them on movement trays. Most 28mm rules work well. I am fond of Guns of Libert, Disperse Ye Damned Rebels, and home grown set that I can't recal the author of at the moment. |

As James pointed out several of us in NC have added 40mm to our 28mm collections. Some use a modified version of The British Are Coming rules. I use the Carnage and Glory computer moderated rules. Don't have our base sizes available but for infantry we use the same base size, six figures double rank, that we used for 28mm. They are a little more congested but still doable. Cavalry and artillery do need slightly larger bases. I'll be running a 40mm AWI game at Fall in using Carnage and Glory. Most of our figures are Sash and Saber but I will have a couple of new Trident units. db |

We of course game 40mm AWI here at Miniature Service Center. We have our own house rules which we are enjoying very much. We have up to 20 guys and some women that game with us. My collection so far is about 800 painted figures. Most are Trident Designs figures but I do have some Front Rank and Sash & Saber figure units also. I would be happy to send you a copy of our house rules if you like. E-mail me at msc1d@aol.com and I will send it to you. To check out our up to date web site go to miniatureservicecenter.com We should be releasing the Hessians pretty soon. We have also added a site with line drawings of figures to come besides our work bench site. The line drawings are being done for us by Brian who sculpted some of the best ranges of Redoubt. Brian is helping us in the animation of the figures that are being sculpted by Sean Judd. Doug Carroccio |

Bob, Lights are on two figure square bases so they can be formed or unformed. Rifle are on two figure irregularly shaped bases since they never formed up in the standard sense. Hope this helps. db |

I have recently acquired some AWI 40s. Anybody like the old Tricorne or Age of Reason modified for AWI? |

I'm thinking of doing a small 40mm battle MAX 12 units I have no room for more. Were can I get 40mm terrain? |

VonLoudon: I love the old Tricorne Rules by Ken Bunger for the AWI. They are a very 70's – 80's ruleset with unit rosters, simultaneous movement, written orders etc. AWI games are small enough that you can get through these details and still finish a game. The rules can handle very small units, the use of "unformed" troops (i.e. loose files / American scramble), militia, bad militia – and really really bad militia, light infantry work very well (if you try to shift them out of woods – it could take a while), etc. I've always thought the morale system was fantastic. The players strive to inflict morale throws on the enemy – not always casualties. We play with 28mms but I'm sure they could work for 40's. The only trick is to watch for players who want to turn the 17th Lt. dragoons, or Washington's dragoons into Napoleonic cavalry. The move rates are generous in the game, and lt. horse can really travel. There is always someone who wants to declare a charge where the horse would move over hills, around houses etc and contact an enemy. If you read the rules carefully, you can avoid most of that. But it always seems to crop up :) Otherwise lots of fun. BC |

Great BC mins. Now I'm looking into dice and probability and hopefully will be able to translate the D6 to D10 probabilities or even keep the D6/one tens die and a ones die system. Tricorne, Pas de Charge and the like have always caught my imagination. JEB used the dual D6/decimal system as well. But these games have also struck me as being nice show off your toys games. Several of them were 1/20 scale and used different types of basing systems. |
