Never, I only use brand "x" figures I use current issue Minifigs but not the earlier range I only use 1st or 2nd ed, not the newer ones I will mix but prefer 1st/2nd ed if I could get them I will mix them but far prefer the current range And why
.. I am just wondering why I end up paying much more for the 2nd ed (my warriors of choice)than for the current ranges on ebay and other trading sites. Rarity may come into it but I have a feeling that players genuinely prefer the more static poses of the earlier ranges. |

I prefer the current third gen Minifigs with the thin oval foot bases and the wavy horse bases. The 2nd Gen transition style (thin square foot bases) are still the only style for some minor countries. The casting detail is shaper than that of the 2nd Gen series. |

Seems to me that if you buy Minifig you are all about the static poses so I would tend to agree with you. That said, I am a brand X guy. Cheers, The Bandit |

The third edition was in response to customers complaining of the stoic poses. Now they want them. Just goes to show that you cannot please everyone. I am in the school that wants everyone in my units being of the same pose-NOT looking all around, for this period. Anything else does NOT give the impression that the unit is a well disciplined unit! For some reason, that "look" gets reflected in my die rolling for those "willy-nilly" posed units, as well! />) Best Tom Dye GFI |

I prefer 2nd gen because to me they look like scaled down 25mm Minifigs – so they have what I think of as the Minifigs style. Also I like my figures to be in march attack poses and I think these are done better in 2nd gen than the current range. I used to prefer the 2nd gen horses but the wavy base boys are growing on me and I have found that 2nd gen riders can look very good on 3rd gen mounts. I buy a lot of the current range of Minifigs (I'm waiting on an order of SYW and American Revolution figures and also for some Napoleonic French and British sailors for use in skirmish gaming) but for Napoleonic I would prefer 2nd gen. |

The figures I was waiting for have made it through the post strike. And they really are superb. The French and British sailors in particular are wonderfully animated: picture picture The SYW march attack figures are just what I was looking for as well. To my eye they have just the right character for the period (like Tom I don't want my figures looking around like they are on a stroll in the park) Rob, to address your initial question as to why you have to pay so much for 2nd gen figures on eBay etc, I think the problem is that you only need a couple of guys to be interested and the prices will go through the roof. I suspect each time 2nd gen stuff comes up a bunch of us TMPers start bidding against each other and end up making the figures far more expensive than they should be. |

Any time there is a discontinued series, the prices will rise if there is any "collector" value in them. Personally, I prefer the more active poses. Those old Minifigs look like a row of "toy soldiers," whereas the more animated figures with pose variation look more like a group of real men. It's just a personal preference. I've found that, once the game begins, very few of the players are concerned with such matters. Especially in 15mm or smaller, the units become ubiquitous. |

I just wish I could find a full line of 25mm Napoleonic & ECW Minifigs in the USA to buy

I am painting some Russian infantry and get the feeling that I am painting up a bunch of skinny praying mantus stickbug insects. Once they are painted and mounted in close order, some of that impression goes away. I've decided that this brigade should do without commisary wagons. |

For me the question would be with all the better brand out there, why would you stick to minifigs? I made the sacrifice years ago when they were about the only ones out there and I've never been happier to get rid of the one pose or silly hyper aggressive poses. AB and Old Glory do wonderful figures and if nothing else, you'll have have a good resale value. Something serious to consider. |

I don't think there's such a thing as a 'better brand'; there is only what you prefer. I like my figures to be in one pose and I like the proportions of Minifigs. I'm not keen on the 'hyper aggressive poses' of the 3rd gen so I mainly use 2nd gen figures – though I also use officers, artillery and cavalry from the current range. And for me resale value is an irrelevance. They'll only take away my Minifigs when they prise them from my cold, dead hand. |
