I'm working on a sci-fi city board and am looking for an easy street light that looks modern or sci-fi styled. Plastruct makes some in HO scale that aren't too bad and could be seen in a futuristic city setting.

Other than ones that can be purchased, does anybody have some suggestions on designs that would be easy to build?

Thanks!

I would suggest door stoppers. I got a stack of them for like a buck a pop and they come in all kinds of shapes. This is the only pic I think I have of one.

For modern zombie games, I use O gauge street lamps. I pick them up between 50 cents and a dollar each at model train shows when I'm cruising for cheap Plasticville buildings.

I glue them to metal washers so they don't tip over easily. If those aren't modern or futuristic enough, add some surveillance cameras from weapon bits and wire. ;)

How about using a peice of plastic tube for the post insert a bit of perspex rod at top (for the lamp), maybe top it off with s little bit more of the tube. It will sort of be straight up with clear lamp bit at the top. I would have thought that would look quite futuristic….you could paint the post/shaft any suitalbe colour. Glue it on a washer if you want it movable. other wise drill into your base, insert a smaller rod – and you can put them on and take them of for storage/destruction.

Oh and the best Sci-Fi built ones I have ever seen are in the link above.

Good luck.

Mishima-- great idea! They look very good

Cool lamps.

For bases you could use the handles off disposable Razors. BIC orange are quite good. If you are handy you might be able to remove the blades and insert a bit of clear plastic.

Where you get the cool cop cars?

And is Time Warps still open?

@PapaSync- Police cars are 1/43 scale. I pick up cars at train shows or wherever I can find them when I can get them for around $5 USD or less. You can find a lot of online sources such as diecast sellers or ebay. The newer dodge charger police cars are more money. See example:

Yes, Time Warp is still open. The pic I linked above is from a zombie game I ran this past Friday night at Maplewood Hobby and I'm running the same game next Friday at Time Warp.

Returning to OP, Mishima's got a great idea. I've got some fluorescent yellow and red tubing from Plastruct buried in a bits drawer that I'll try that with next time I'm making more Sci-fi stuff.

Another option for scratch building might be to get Tau drones and mount beads or a clear plastic ring where the guns would be. Then use plastic rod to make the pole. A second idea would be to get large clear beads, fill the center hole with something yellow, sandwich the bead between a disc, or put just a top disc on and mount that on a plastic rod.

@Dropzonetoe- The ones in your link do look great.

Yes, beads are a good idea. Like the BIC razor idea too especailly with some perspex under where the blade was.! Disposable razor heads are dismantled quite easily – but be careful!
I think mine could be good for maybe a pedestrianised shopping street rather than general car street lights…

@Mishima: Those are great ideas for lamps! I will keep those in mind, very excellent!

@dropzonetoe: Wow, those lamps are amazing, a little above what I want to do, but just wow! Where did you get those sidewalks? They look like they are cast.
