JPattern2 or anyone else out there,

Have you obtained the figures already, and tried to paint them and apply a wash?

And did you re-pose/modify/convert some for additional variety?

link

If so, could you post photos?

Thanks.

I got mine. Three poses. Very nice. I did not paint or wash or convert them. Maybe after they are released as a separate set and I get a few hundred more.

A few photos did get posted on my blog.

Hey CC, I got my 'Martians' game thru my local Comic/game shop, but haven't done anything with them…as far as painting…YET! May try a 'wash' of grey and black ink this weekend…

They come in a very cool 'icky light green' in THREE different poses….and the game cards etc…are JUST 'BEGGING' for more expansion sets….(and seperate bags of 100 Martians, (instant or not! 8-), glo in the dark and similar tile/game card expansions as they have done for their other zombie games etc.

Maybe they'll even have something 'new' to show off at Fall-In, IF they go….but, with the economy being what it is, and folks more 'tight-fisted' with their 'gaming dollar'…smaller companies have to watch their budgets etc more!

I have no doubt other 'goodies' will follow, but whether this year or next, I can't say/wouldn't IF I 'knew' as it would be 'unfair' to 'spill the beans.'

But the figures that come with the game….well 100 Martians should allow you a few 'spare' to play with/modify and I STILL have some of the older 'Mega-minis?' one pose big-brain types…that are just a tad smaller.

These sorta remind me of "Mars Attacks" and 'Destroy All Humans' at the same time…along with a couple other pulp movies…and I can just see a 'mutant radioactive alien zombie martians want our hot zombie babes…(or zombie cows?)….maybe taking out a 'Hannah Montana' type in a Rodeo Blvd Shoe Botique….(do zombie divas STILL fight over shoes?????)….

I've got 'glo in dark paint, which I may try on a few with some really thin black ink over it for 'details' like the eyes….and then a flat grey with the same sort of thing. IF they come out with the 'glo in dark' white/green plastic ones…then maybe just an light black ink wash for 'details'.

Even if you don't play the game, you can't go wrong with a 'bag of martians'….especially with 3 poses and 100 of them…(I'm used to modifying 'softer plastics' anyway, so no biggie)….now if they added saucers….(bwah-hah-ha) or even TENTACLES…well, nevermind….

Right now, there's several 'saucer' kits that are either out, (like the Area 51 new saucer from Pegasus, which is in a perfect 'scale' for the MARTIANS game, or others that can be 'modified' or scratchbuilt till something better comes along…(silver spray paint on two plastic disposable bowls, glued rim to rim!)…

I keep checking back on their website for latest releases…and I recommend others do the same and if they offer a newsletter, sign up for it/check boardgame geek too as sell as TMP!

I've even started 'modifying' some of their action tiles….(like the 'Get off my property card'…changing it to 'get off my YARD'…in honor of John the OFM!!! 8-)….and similar 'personalizations are in the works…(if you have a scanner, paint program/photoshop and a little 'imagination'…tee-hee)…

Oh, I'm not changing the game…just 'personalizing some of the tiles/cards for my TWISTED sense of humor….(since I've still not gotten my 'TMP-opoly board' done…*sigh)

But hopefully the official BARTENTACLE figure will be out by Christmas and I can get other 'suitable tokens' for that version, before I finish it?….8-)

Oh….if you've not bought the game….do it! You can never have too many martians, zombies or martian zombies that glo in the dark, etc….

Slishfully,
Sgt DWW-btod

ack ack ack ack!

As if I really need more figures to paint but they are pretty kewl.

Cacique Caribe24 Oct 2009 4:27 a.m. PST

LOL. I know, I know.

However, from the photos on Twilight's site, along with those taken by Bunkermeister, it seems that the figures have some detail on them that could be brought out further with a little painting and washing.

Thanks.

Same as the others: I have the game, but I haven't painted them yet.

I don't think I'll go for super-detailed painting. I'm planning to glue them to small washers and spray them with Krylon paint for soft plastics – whatever color I choose for the suits. Then brush on the skin color and a metallic color for the weapons, then dip them. I might do different suit colors for different factions or "brigades".

As an aside, I love all of these card-and-mini Twilight Creations games and can't wait to see what they come up with next. Fighting off hordes of skeletons in an ancient city? Battling waves of apemen in a lost temple?

Cacique Caribe24 Oct 2009 8:45 a.m. PST

Jpattern2,

I can't wait to see what you eventually do to them. Please, please post photos of your results. :)

Thanks.

I tried painting the zombie figures a couple of years ago. used the Krylon paint for soft plastics black as primer. They are still tacky. I did go ahead and paint some and then varnish so are playable. Is there a better primer?

Dances With Words Fezian24 Oct 2009 10:07 a.m. PST

I never have had much luck with krylon on soft plastics….

jpattern224 Oct 2009 1:31 p.m. PST

Good to know. I had planned to test it on a single mini first, to see if it works, but it's always good to read about any problems that others run into.

Doctor Bedlam24 Oct 2009 9:14 p.m. PST

They're the usual soft plastic -- they take acrylic well, but DON'T try any kind of spray clear coat! The details come out nice with a wash.

Good to know! Thanks.

PS. Now, if anyone would be willing to part with two of each pose . . .
