I have finally finished the latest draft of these rules, and have made a proof copy (i.e. it has not yet been checked for any mistakes!) available via my blog at link . I am now going to take a fews days off from developing these rules (a break will help me spot any of the more obvious mistakes when I begin reading the proff copy and testing the rules) but would welcome any constructive feedback. I like 'em, Bob. Good work. Allen |

Allen, Thanks for the compliment. So far yours is one of only two comments I have received so far! It's a good job I don't write rules for my own personal glory
I wouldn't get much would I! All the best, Bob |

Bob, make it three – had a look and they look rather good! I'll take a longer look shortly and, if I am able, will come back with some (more useful) comments |

Those look very interesting
love the grid system, cuts out all the fiddly measuring and also makes games more accesable to 'non' gamers (ie: my stepkids!). Will definatley try 'em out! |

Well, SCWARES didn't exactly set the world on fire, either; but that doesn't mean it's not a good game! There's definitely a place for gridded games. And every time I think they're surely past their "sell by" date, somebody turns up at a show with one (often an adaptation of Morschauser) and gets a lot of attention. I've been working on doing "Patrols in the Sudan" (and not only for the Sudan) in 28mm, with individual figures grouped on sabot bases. I'm going to have to consider a suitably enlarged grid and trying WEC!-CW in the larger scale. Allen |

Allen, If you have the space, multiplying everything by 1.5 should work with 28mm figures (e.g 75mm/3-inch grid). It is what I would do if I had the room (my eyes are getting too old to paint 15mm figures very well these days!). Bob |

I'll take a look as I like Colonial games. I assume this is Victorian Era colonial. The title implies the game is between the colonial empires, Brits vs French vs German. Clash of Empires. That is a new approach as most games of this genre are between empires and native people. |

We have had a lot of success with 'Induanas, Colonels and Emirs (1984 & 2000). A 1:10 set of rules with 12 castings to a company for European drilled units. The 2000 revision had both matrix and 'bucket of dice' combat systems available for gamers who wanted different 'a different feel'. There is definately a group of Colonial gamers who want something more than man to man skirmish. Good Luck |

"Brits vs French vs German. Clash of Empires. That is a new approach as most games of this genre are between empires and native people." Er
no. Read the rules and the (several) accompanying army lists. The "When Empires Clash" reference is to another set of rules being developed by Bob for 19th century wargames. Both sets of rules use a similar game engine. |

Mike Snorbens has hit the nail on the head. The original rules – WHEN EMPIRES CLASH! – started out as a generic set for the late 19th and early 20th centuries and were intended to be used to fight small-scale battles between Europeans nations and also between European nations and native states. It becamse very apparent when I first made these rules available on the 'net that there were lots of people who wanted to use the rules strictly for Colonial conflicts, and as the rules were still under development I produced a sub-set for purely colonial actions; hence the name CLASH OF EMPIRES! – COLONIAL WARS. Once these are fully play-tested the fuller version of the rules will be produced. In the meantime I have already had very helpful and positive feedback, and contrary to my original intention of having a short break, I have begun to revise WEC- CW already. With any luck this should be available sometime in the next few days. Bob Cordery |
