Hi,
How do Front Rank and crusader figs match up for size? Thanks

ioannis23 Oct 2009 8:21 a.m. PST

Which FR and which Crusader? They differ even within manufacturer!!!

Maybe this link will help:

As I hope you can tell from the pictures, the Front Rank and Crusader figures that I have in my armies have similar physiques and poses. Whether or not you use them in the same units or in separate units is a personal decision. But you can read my philosophy about that in this link:

I agree with Jim – I have Crusader, Front Rank, Foundry and Dixon in my SYW armies – I don't mix within a unit, but certainly have units from different manufacturers within the same army

You may see a few small differences between castings of the same basic pose in Crusader and Foundry, Front Rank less so, and other lines having no differences except headgear or maybe ammo pouch decor. IMHO only, I do not favor mixing brands in the same Btn (with very few exceptions), using different lines for different units, however, is not only acceptable,I think that it adds a better visual effect. This is , of course, totally your personal choice!

Having Crusader, Foundry and Front RAnk it depends on the armys.

Frontrank prussians are small and i think older castings.

French, British and Austrians are a bit larger.

The Crusaders British should match well with Frontrank.
The Crusaders Prussians match well with Foundry

I have no Crusader French or Foundry French or British (i do not like the faces of those foundry sculpts).

i have mixed Foundry and Crusader and it is ok.
But usualy i try not to mix.

Front Rank and Crusader have a similar amount of "heft" or "chunkiness" to them that makes them visually compatible. You will find that the FR are not as tall as the Crusader, but this is well disguised by the chunky factor. You can always place a penny or a piece of plastic or card underneath the FR figure to make it appear taller on the base.

I use them all, but I keep them in their own discrete battalions.
