I'm desperately seeking some 28mm figures of 16th century-style "academics"… In other words, figures that might look like Nostradamus or John Calvin, etc. Cap, beard, robes, etc.

Any suggestions???

Looking to wargame some sort of esoteric philosophical debate? :~) Joking aside, I would love to see these as well.

Just building up a Renaissance collection. No philosophy required! :-) I just need some bearded, ol' scholarly types…

Try some of the artillery pieces in GW's Empire range. They might not have the robes but they will be bearded and unarmoured. There are some other figs, like master gunners and such, that might work really well along with them.

You may want to try some of the fantasy ranges to find suitable figures (there are plenty out there).

How about the Warlord cleric (a bit late but he looks suitable enough)

As Pictors says, there are some great Engineer-types in the current and older GW Empire ranges that would make nice academics and philosophers. There was (is?) even a not-da Vinci.

And as Huscarle says, there are literally hundreds of fantasy wizards, sorcerors, magicians, and clerics that would also work. Many are dressed in simple robes, and have no more obvious "magical" accoutrements than a staff or crystal ball, and you could paint the crystal ball as a globe. Suitable caps are easy to add with just a little green stuff.

There was even a Philosopher scratching his head and clutching an armful of scrolls made for the old Talisman game: link

He pops up pretty often on Ebay.

Do an Ebay or Google search for "miniature" and "wizard", "sorceror", "cleric", and so on, and see which ones look the part.

Some good suggestions. Thanks gang. I think most of my previous "wizard" or "cleric" searches were coming up with stuff that was just too fantastic.

I'll keep searching (though that Warlord cleric is quite good)!
