Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Uniforms of the Napoleonic Wars by Digby George Smith, Jeremy Black ($19.00) Soildiers and Uniforms of Napoleonic Wars by Francois-Guy Hourtelle, Patrice Courcelle, Jack Girbal ($29)
I wanted to know which if any of these book was worth getting if I wanted to have a decent guide to painting uniforms for the Peninsula Campaign. Price is not always an indicator of quality or value. I am mostly interested in light troops (French & British) for skirmish actions. I've already been steered in the direction of some good info but I'm thinking a guide book might be helpful in case I want to play around a bit. I'll be painting a combination of Perry & Victrix. |

Short answer is no, probably not the book you want. If you can get a copy "Military Dress of the Peninsular War 1808-1814" by Martin Windrow with colour plates by Gerry Embleton is your best bet. It will have more than you require, but I suspect like most wargamers the project will grow and you will find yourself wanting other uniform details. |

Soldiers and Uniforms of Napoleonic Wars by Francois-Guy Hourtelle, Patrice Courcelle, Jack Girbal ($29) I like Jack Girbal's plates, nice depiction of battles scenes and troops. A good book but only a few of the plates (out of about 60)are for the Peninsula. The couple I recall are: Vistula Legion, Young Guard in Spain, Gendarmes, Paris Guard in Spain, Chasseurs vs. Guerillas and maybe a few others. Cliff |

Does anyone have any feedback about this book; Uniforms of the Peninsular Wars, 1807-1814 It seems to be more specific to the Peninsular campaign and its within the budget of $50 USD (Barnes & Noble Gift Card) |

That's the one. I'm not as fanatical as some of the more "dedicated" Napoleonic gamers so as long as the book is a decent guide, I'm happy. Hopefully this will do it. |

I think you`ll find it a good enough guide. Regards, |
