What is the correct uniform for Bavarian Chevauleger Musicians after the 1811 uniform reform when the colour of the coat was changed to dark green? Was the coat dark green or was it the reverse of the facing colour or some other variation? TIA |

see link The colour of the Chevauleger were always dark green, only the two Dragoon regiments had white coats, but they were converted to chevaulegers as well after 1809. In 1809 the Chevauleger trumpeters had reversed colours up to then blue coats and black facings. According to Cantler the trumpeters of the 2nd regiment had red horsehair plume This 2nd regiment became forth after the Dragoons were converted in to CL |

Although we must wonder how long it took before the two former Dragoon Regts were issued with green coats; I don't suppose the Bavarians were any better at supply than anyone else. The Battle of Hanau by Horace Vernet (used to hang in a gallery near the entrance of the National Gallery, along with three other Vernet paintings; not sure where they hang now) shows Bavarian cavalry in white coats attacking the Imperial Guard Artillery. Vernet (1789-1863) was contemporaneous with the events but not sure if he was using accurate references, he might have just liked the dramatic effect of the white coats. |
