Okay, I was maybe 8 or 9 and granpa took me to see this Japanese monster movie.. not from the Godzilla series. It was more like a SF movie with the occasional monsters. I remember there was a four-legged, winged, lion-headed creature with golden or light brown fur flying out of a secret base or a cave in the side of a mountain
any idea of what movie it could be, and if an English subtitled version of it is available on DVD? thanks! Andrea ganeshagames.blogspot.com |

What time period would that have been? Live action right, not anime? |
| clibinarium | 19 Oct 2009 2:13 p.m. PST |
I think the monster is King Caesar. |

Ah sorry. mid seventies? I was born in 1968. Live action, not anime. I think a Toho production

No clibinarium, it was winged and four legged, definitively NOT King Caesar. Same hairstyle thou' A |

I think I might have found it. I've never seen it myself, but did catch it in the Cinemassacre Godzillathon (maybe not work safe but funny and worth watching all of them.) Godzilla-vs-Mechagodzilla YouTube link EDIT: Not this then, but the Monster in the Mountain thing sounds very similar. |

Similar but not him. I have this movie. I'mk pretty sure it was a minor SF flick like Atragon and not a Godzilla title

Andrea is it this guy? link picture Its from Ultraman, a Japanese live action kid show. What you describe sound just like the space mummy episode. Maybe Infarman YouTube link |

No Mrwigglesworth. This was something I saw in a proper movie theater, not on TV, As far as I know, no Ultraman movie ever was distributed in my country (Italy). I saw the first Ultraman TV series several years later on TV, thou'. Maybe I should find a complete filmography of Ishiro Honda and start from there

What year would it have been when you saw it? I've just done a lot of digging but can't find anything like it! |
Ganesha Games | 19 Oct 2009 3:30 p.m. PST |
I cannot be sure, I think I was no older than 9, so it must have been circa 1975-1976. I'm not sure this was a Japanese movie (I remember most actors were Asian, but it could have been a Hong Kong movie as well, I was a kid!) |
Ganesha Games | 19 Oct 2009 3:31 p.m. PST |
Maybe it was a kaiju version of a manticore? There was maybe a mad scientist with a hidden base
I know, all of this is vague
