Does anyone know who, if anyone, makes figures that would work for these chappies? I am building a SYW Spanish army for use in defending Manila and would like to have the Tagalogs and Kapampangan warriors. While I'm here, same question re Sepoys for the same period? Cheers, Glynn |

Glynn, Expanding my 18th century collection, I too have looked at the Spanish and their colonial allies, not only in South America, but also the Phillipines. The only thing I could find on costumes of the period, were descriptions of bare chested, no facial hair, loin clothed warriors. Sarongs may also have been worn as well as cloth turbans wrapped in distinct fashion. I found this useful as an orientation: link Figures: Old Glory 15mm Berbers (bare chest and legged, loin cloth) work for me, however, I am changing the round shield to an oblong or rectangular one and converting the javelin to an axe for some. I would also consider similar attired figures from Baker Co's Burmese and Siamese range. Cheers, Robert 18thcenturysojourn.blogspot.com |

Thanks for that Robert. That article looks like interesting reading. One good book about the British campaign is called "Manila Ransomed" but there is not much descriptive stuff about the local warriors. Cheers, Glynn |
