I am looking for ANY additional details on these Russian officers, all of whom served with the 20th Jдgers in 1812. --- Феонас / Feonas – major commanding the 2nd Replacement Battalion, with the Riga garrison – possibly a liason officer with the Prussians in 1813 --- Иванов / Ivanov – major, wounded Ostrovno, Smolensk and Kalisch – possibly the same as полковник Иванов 3-й Станислав Емельянович, командир 20-го (затем 1-го) егерского полка с 1. vi. 1815 г. по 9. iii. 1821 г. --- Симашко / Simashko – major, wounded Smolensk – possibly should be "Симашенко", "Симешенко" or similar --- Нейдгардт / Neydgardt (von Neidhardt) – major, killed at Ostrovno --- Кильдерман / Kil'derman (Kelderman) – captain, wounded Smolensk --- Скорин / Skorin – captain, wounded Smolensk Info for any other majors or captains of the 20th Jдgers during 1812-1815 would be much appreciated, although майор Павленков 2-й Емельян Осипович and майор Горихвостов Алексей Захарович (или Александр Захарьевич) are pretty well covered in the standard bios, due to thier later promotions. Also, has anyone found the following work online, where one could download it. И. V, 337 стр., 23 л. --- does anyone know the name and patronymic of this author? --- are there any other regimental histories pertinent to the 20th Jдgers of 1812-1815? Thanks in advance, Frayer |

There is a catalog of their regimental library from 1896: Систематический каталог книг Офицерской библиотеки 103-го Пехотного Петрозаводского полка : Сост. 1 дек. 1896 г. The regimental history was printed in an edition of 200. Might check the staff-officer spisok of 1903 or 1904 for one of the two authors full names. Dubinin, (Lieutenant-Colonel) and (Lieutenant) Raltsevich. ISTORHA 103-GO PEKH. PETROZAVODSKAGO POLKA. 1803-1903 GG. St. Petersburg, 1903. 254, 105 p. 22 maps. 200 copies published. For a good listing of Russian regimental histories see: link |

Dubinin, Roman Ivanovich! |

Formidable, very formidable – as always. I wonder if our поручик Ральцевич was the later journalist (or propagandist, depending on one's ideology) for the Bolsheviks. Thank you, my friend! Frayer |

Ah, dear friend, it was not the Bolshevik writer – it was поручик С.М. Ральцевич, the philatelist. Sadly, he departed his studies and his stamps for active service during the World War, and did not return. link With kind regards to Schaan from your neighbor in Planken, Frayer |

Ah, yes, his sadly only half finished, and quite rare, "Русская земская почта и марки – исторические очерки, составленные и редактированные С.М.Ральцевичем с многочисленными иллюстрациями." I did not realize he is the same person. In my youth I was a stamp collector with a special interest in Russia (Imperial and revolution periods), Canada and Jamaica. With the recent death of my father, these collections are now back with me. I have more information at my home re the 20-i egarski. When I am next there I will search out the information. Today is one of my sons birthday – I shall spend the rest of the day with him. Big Al |

Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your father. It is in the nature of things for sons to outlive fathers, but I still feel the loss of my father, although it is now many years later. On a happier note, please extend my warmest regards to your son on the occasion of his birthday! A coincidence – I too collected stamps as a youth, if in a somewhat amateurish way. My interests included also Russia, as well as France. My collection is now being augmented by a much more serious younger collector, a cousin's son who lives in the USA. As I am often in Russia and France, I am able to acquire the occasional example for him. With friendship, Frayer |

Have you viewed: Хамин С. А. I have a copy which can be checked against your list. |

Dear friend, I have not this work (or scans of it). However, there is this transcription at the website Храма † Христа † Спасителя: xxc.ru/walls/list.htm and here: vgd.ru/STORY/1812-1.txt vgd.ru/STORY/1812-2.txt If (and only if) you think the Hamin & Afanas'ev text will be more complete and if (and only if) it is organized to check a particular regiment, then I would be very appreciative of your checking it for me. But please, do not trouble yourself, as with the bibliographic detail you have so kindly provided, I should eventually find a copy myself. Thank you, as always, Frayer |

"
organized to check a particular regiment
." If only life was so nice, my friend! Sometimes one must solve problems by 'brute force'. <;^} I am working on several such projects. The material as shown in xxc.ru/walls/list.htm is as I recall the data. Big Al |

My dear count, Well, Frayer is nicer. <;^} I am not at home, so I must "depend on the kindness of strangers." Big Al |

My dear Graf, If you are using the Firefox browser on a Mac computer, and then (from the menu on the top) select: --> View --> Character Encoding --> Cyrillic (Windows-1251) then the strangers' Cyrillic will render correctly. If you have a different OS and/or browser, perhaps some other setting will be needed. Frayer |

My dear count, See, Frayer IS nicer! <;^} The birthday bash was smashing. A Thai feast (his favorite), with several sons and assorted guests present. The flight to and from Thailand was un-eventful. Yours, in firm research, Big Al |

Gentlemen, may I refer you to the Anne K Brown military collection in Brown University, Providence, RI. It has a very extensive collection of Russian regimental history books- many of those not even registered in library catalog ( at least that was an issue)due to lack of Russian speaking translators. It you are visiting in the area you can contact library curator mr Peter Harrington for a visit

Sergei, Peter is well known to me. I have visited the collection on a number of occasions over the years. Jean Rainwater, on the library staff, is quite familiar with Russian and she has been inputing Russian material onto the National Data Dase for quite some time, which is different than the Josiah catalog system. Yours, in firm research, Big Al |

yes, they do have some Russian speakers and Russians on the staff or just at Brown. I hope they moved cataloging MUCH further then it was last time I was there. It is a shame I cannot get there more often, despite living very close- my work and Mr Harrington's hours are just the same! Their Josiah catalog system was quite poor- MANY cards were written by Anne Brown herself- in Russian, and quite hard to read. Stuff that she managed to buy years ago is just unbelievable- including outstanding contemporary artwork. I remember field book of watercolors by Russian officer during 7yw- superb! Regs, Sergei |
