The first of our Fischer Chasseurs á Cheval are depicted above using Eurekas new 28mm Saxon hussars. Castings are mounted, dismounted and there is a horse holder vignette. Thank you Eureka!

Very Nice! I especially like the scene with the mix of mounted and unmounted.

But this also leads me to a question.

These Eureka Saxon Hussars are painted as French.
A previous thread had shown Eureka Saxon Hussars painted as Prussian.
Not By Appointment has a template of Saxon Frei Hussar von Schil which was supposed to be a bodyguard type unit of only around 40.
Partizan Armies and Uniforms of the SYW Vol. 2 shows plate of a Saxon Renard Hussar with ared uniform, green pelisse and a busby type headgear.

Can anyone lead me to a Saxon Hussar unit that wore the Mirleton as on the Eureka Saxon Hussar figure ?
I assume that such a unit had to be pre Pirna.

Bill, great as always! Thanks for sharing…

A quick question: What is the manufacturer of the Prussian blue hussars (and their horses!) in this photo from your website?

Thanks!

Ioannis: those are Stadden Prussian hussars from my collection, so they are 30mm figures, very big in relation to other brands, but still nice. They only come in one pose so some conversion is necessary if you want an officer or trumpeter.

Thanks Jim…I think this is the second regiment of yours that I see done using Stadden hussars, and it is the second time that I comment on them. VERY nice!

I shall be buying some myself…

These are the ones in this web page, right?

Frankss, I understand the Eureka hussars are intended to go beyond Saxony and cover most mid-18th C. options.

As for Saxon hussars, I have been unable so far to identify the "Renard" unit referred to in the Partizan booklet. There are a few wobbles about Saxon cavalry units in that book, so could it be a misnomer? Their uniform is more or less the one Knötel shows for Schill's troop. The latter apparently did wear the mirliton, only NCOs and officers having busbies.

PS The Knötel plate of Schill's hussars is the one reproduced in black and white on p.80 of the Partizan booklet. Red dolman and breeches, green pelisse and shabraque with yellow lace. The trooper in front has black fur on the pelisse and a black mirliton, the NCO in the distance has brown fur edging to his pleisse and a brown fur busby.
