I've got three DH-4s in various stages of finishing. One is almost done. The other two are about half done. The kits were incomplete so I had to manufacture some parts out of styrene and some of the bombs were lost or cannot be salvaged. Still, other than the bombs, most would be hard pressed to discern my manufactured repairs from the real deal.
I painted these in American Colors and Decals. Other than the roundels, the decals are all on the planes.
That was before I got hold of some resin nose pieces that would make the 1/72 Airfix DH-4 a 'real' American DH-4 -- anatomically correct as it were.
Now I can do the project 'right'.
Where the above three kits are concerned, it would be more trouble than its worth to try and straighten them out, as it were.
Should I finish the DH-4s under construction in their American colors and try to sell them? I'd feel like I was peddling counterfeit goods.
[The decals are out of print and are extremely old, making their application a serious challenge for even the most experienced modeler. Mailing plastic models is seldom without peril and injury.]
Should I repaint them as Brits? -- use them for myself?
Should I save my time and give them away, as is? -- or maybe sell them as is?
Guess I could just throw them away. Given the rarity of the subject matter (both kit and decals are OOP) I am loath to do this.
Something else?
