I've got three DH-4s in various stages of finishing. One is almost done. The other two are about half done. The kits were incomplete so I had to manufacture some parts out of styrene and some of the bombs were lost or cannot be salvaged. Still, other than the bombs, most would be hard pressed to discern my manufactured repairs from the real deal.

I painted these in American Colors and Decals. Other than the roundels, the decals are all on the planes.

That was before I got hold of some resin nose pieces that would make the 1/72 Airfix DH-4 a 'real' American DH-4 -- anatomically correct as it were.

Now I can do the project 'right'.

Where the above three kits are concerned, it would be more trouble than its worth to try and straighten them out, as it were.

Should I finish the DH-4s under construction in their American colors and try to sell them? I'd feel like I was peddling counterfeit goods.

[The decals are out of print and are extremely old, making their application a serious challenge for even the most experienced modeler. Mailing plastic models is seldom without peril and injury.]

Should I repaint them as Brits? -- use them for myself?

Should I save my time and give them away, as is? -- or maybe sell them as is?

Guess I could just throw them away. Given the rarity of the subject matter (both kit and decals are OOP) I am loath to do this.

Something else?

Finish them. You are probably one of ten people in the hobby who would recognize the flaws. Most of us just want to fly planes.

I Agree with Jovian1, mosr people would not know the difference. I fthey were Camel's or D7's everyone would know.

Finish them as is and get them on the table. When you are working on them, think of witty responses to the sticklers who will point out that they are "not American DH-4's."

What Acharnement said with an added beyatch slap to anyone sniggly enough to point out the difference in public.

So true Rocky but I don't think they had American Squadron Markings on them did they?

If I'm wrong, which squadrons did this?

Can't say I have run across this.

The British spec DH4s were in American squadron service, they had American markings. I do not remember what squadrons they were, I am at work with no reference books.

Keep them and use them. If they bother you during a game then replace them but I guess once they are shooting or being shot at you won't care either way.
