So, I purchased some Austrian cav from Sash and Sabre, and they came with carbines that need gluing on. Where should these puppies go? On the saddle? On the front of the trooper? Back? Any help very welcome!:D

According to a picture of an Austrian Hussar in "Armies of the Napoleonic Wars" from Osprey, the carbine hung from a 4 inch (guestimate) wide, white leather belt that draped diagnally from the left shoulder, across the chest/back and came together at the right hip, 3 inches (again, guestimate) below the waist. 2 other pictures from the Osprey Men-at-Arms book about Austrian Cavalry shows the same setup on a Hussar and a Cheveauleger but with the addition of a black leather strap around the carbine and a piquet which extends to the front of the saddle (it cannot be seen where it fastens at the front of the saddle.

I hope that helps.

There is an indentation on the troopers right thigh where the carbine sits.

That is an even better direction.
