Hi all,

My gaming fellows and I have recently started discussing about a trial on some kind of Spanish Civil War miniatures air combat.

Our primary aim was using some popular, fast-playing rulesets such as Wings of War, to be played with 1/144 aircraft miniatures. However, we do not know where to find any suitable variant (even a home-made one), along with their corresponding statistics/cards.

Has anyone ever tried such period gaming? Might we take a look on the rules/stats sets they used?

Thanks!

We have using the Check your six rules…..No problems noted as the majority of planes are covered in the main book.

Very good yahoo group as well which offers excellent support

I think Dom (Skelton) has done the stats to cover Bag the Hun.

Wings of War might be a very good choice. Some fans have worked up SCW airplane cards for WoW. I don't have any links handy, you can track them down if you join the wow_nexus Yahoo group. Or you could go with the Dawn of War WWII version, which looks like it's going to cover SCW in the official releases:

I've tried playing SCW airwar using a couple of WWII sets, Air Force/Dauntless and Mustangs. I found that the rules were optimized for mid- to late-WWII planes. SCW aircraft are, by comparison, slow and under-armed, so as to give a dull game under WWII rules. I think you'd do better to start with a set of WWI airwar rules. Which brings us back to WoW.

You want BAG THE HUN from Too Fat Lardies – BRILLIANT! – with the 2006 Summer Special which has the SCW stats.

Thanks, guys.

Check your 6! seems to be quite interesting, as Bag the Hun does too… Which one to try first? :S

BTW, Mark: I've had no trouble to locate Too Fat Lardies' 2006 Summer supplement at their website, but I'm uncertain if I'd need some sort of Bag the Hun main rules too, and where to find them. When clicking at what it seemed to be these core rules link, I only find a Battle of Britain supplement: link

You're right.

Hi

Our very complex WW1 Rules "Canvas Falcons" has a module at the end for Spain and China. The specs are real world numbers uaing the computer analysis approaches used on current aircraft, and might not be the "specs" you want.

Apologies for coming in late here. Bag the Hun version 2 is due to be published next month so we have withdrawn the original from sale now. The SCW stats in the 2006 Summer Special will still be useable with v2 of the rules.

Thanks for you comments, guys.

A gaming mate of mine was yesterday seeking for some info on both Cy6! and BtH, and we're now trying to agree a choice.

Following our infos, both gaming systems use hexagonal grid surfaces as playing areas -unlike WoW, which needs no such divided boards, for movement is straightly given by cards that also operate as move rulers.

Besides, Cy6! seems to require a statystics sheet for each aircraft/pilot in play, which also serves as a maneouvre template. Such a feature looks quite similar to Blue Max procedures, in my oppinion.

However, we haven't been able to ellucidate how does Bag the Hun work, apart from being a card-driven game. Are cards used in a way similar to WoW's? Or what are they intended for? Does BtH require individual statystics sheets, too?

Thanks again, and apologies for my insistence.

No, cards in BTH sequence play and events, they don't define precise movement as in WoW. For example each flight has a card in the pack as do your aces and characters. There are a few others for events such as bailing out.

When the appropriate card is drawn from the pack that unit takes its turn. That's a very simplistic explanation but the result is fantastic chaos and avoids predictable situations arising.

You don't need a record sheet in BTH like you do for CY6, you only really need to record ammo and damage not plot each move. Its very fast flowing and great fun. Start with four planes each and go up to about a dozen when your more experienced.

I haven't yet played BTH and I own CY6 and have play SCW games in 6mm….

It works really well I feel..and most of the aircraft stats are in the book…those's that aren't I might be able to provide if your intrested as I have a made a few.
