Well, I'm packing for the Cedar Creek reenactment this weekend. The weather forecast is abysmal: rain all day tomorrow, Saturday and most of Sunday. Temperatures in the low 40s during the day, in the 30s at night. The rain could change to snow at night. What fun! We are all going to get sick and die. |

Good luck -- you're correct about the weather here, won't be clearing till well after the weekend's over. |

Have fun "rock skiing" with your hobnails on the exposed limestone--that was always an exciting part of the reenactment. My last Cedar Creek event was just before the release of "Gods and Generals" and Stephen Lang came up to the Confederate camp asking some fellows to provide a background for a scene they were shooting there. That's been some time now, I guess. |

I'm coming back to reenacting after a three year hiatus and my buddy and I will be leaving for the event tomorrow. I picked a hell of a weekend to comeback. I'm thirty years old, and even my mom called me tonight to suggest I stay home and dry. I can deal with the cold, I just hope the rain let's up. Scott- what unit are you with? Gert |

What a bunch of girlie-men
.. Come on now, Brian Pohanka used to rightly claim that "you can only get so wet".. and then it doesn't matter anymore. The human body is remarkable resilient to water.. heh. Last time I was down there it rained as well. We took shelter on friday night in the cellar of the barn, and slept like angels. The rest of the weekend was spent in an exhaustion euphoria state. Just bring a canteen of cold coffee, and another full of bourbon, some cooked bacon in your haversack, and life will be good. Seriously. Have fun, and stay safe. Respects, |

Gert, I have the honor to command the Mifflin Guard. And if I didn't have that honor, I'd bloody well stay home! :) Tkindred, I knew Brian well. And yes, you can only get so wet and you can only get so cold and you can only get so sick and you can only get so dead. Your point? :) |

Shennandoah Valley, just south of Winchester. Wish I could be there with my pards, despite the weather. Unfortunately, I have to work this year. |

I'm missing this one because we have an event locally. It will rain buckets here as well and very cold all weekend. |

Shennandoah Valley, just south of Winchester. Is that in Virginia? |
| firstvarty1979 | 16 Oct 2009 6:13 a.m. PST |
Yep. Not far from West Virginia though. I haven't been to Cedar Creek since 2003 when I stopped doing Civil War reenacting. When the weather there is its usual, it is often rainy or cold. This year it happens to be both! :( |

The weather at Cedar Creek is notorious for being VERY unpredictable! I haven't been there in years, but the couple times I was the weather was very strange! Bob |

Well, I'm back! It was a pretty good event but the dire weather predictions cut down our numbers by 50% :( And ironically, the weather wasn't nearly as bad as predicted. Cold, yes, but that's normal. The rain that was predicted for all weekend only showed up Saturday afternoon and evening. I can't blame those who didn't come (if I hadn't had command responsibilities, I would have bagged it, myself) but it is a shame so many people missed a good time because of bad weather predictions. |
