Hi all, I've just finished my job with a flight of three 1:100th scale Polikarpov I-16 Soviet fighters, that have been painted as in SCW Republican service (1936-1939). Aircraft in this scale may be used either in 15mm games (which is the scale actually matching that of the aircraft models) or in 20mm displays (for those preferring their airplanes to be in a slightly smaller size than their land models, like I do). I've taken a set of photos on the aircraft and posted them on my painting blog, soldadets.blogspot.com . You can also use this other URL to go straightly to that particular post: link . Along with pictures, I've written an abstracts of their painting procedure. Sorry it's only in Catalan, although you can try the "Google Translate" gadget to obtain some kind of translation (he he). Cheers, Lluís Catalonia, Spain PS: I almost forgot to point out that clicking on each photo leads you to a bigger version of pictures. |

Impressive! And if it weren't for Esteban Maturin y Domanova, I wouldn't know what Catalan meant! |

Glad you like them :) King Cobra: You're right, we Catalans should be eternally grateful to Mr. Patrick O'Brian, for his empathic irish-catalan character!! |

They look great, Lluis. Can you tell me how controversial is the Spanish Civil War for gamers in Spain today? Is it still argued over, or do people accept the past and move on? |

Tuscaloosa: There is still a great deal of taboo here. To accept past, you first must know how it actually was. Many of the taboos and History deformations induced by Franco's regime are still alive and widespread, so that facts generally accepted outside Spain are still qualified as subjective or tendentious here. Some time ago I was talking with a Madrid wargamer, who explained me the system they followed to play SCW. The game manager/referee politely asked every player for his political preferences, in order to assign to each one the gaming side opposite to these. Many players decline playing SCW to avoid issues with friends or familiars; at my own gaming club, in Catalonia, the few times we've played SCW no one would choose to play Nationalists, so that we've assigned them by dice (or with the compromise to change sides at next opportunity). I'm the only one there at painting SCW miniatures -of course, I've had to build a Nationalist Army too, not just the one I'd like
And you wouldn't watch at my wife's face when she first saw me painting Spanish Nationalist flags!! :S Similar issues arise at re-enacting. In some parts of Spain, re-enactments are made with no one assuming the role of Republicans; here in Catalonia, only Republican re-enactors can be found. Wounds haven't cicatrized yet; they cannot until adequately disinfected. |

Thank you, very interesting. "The past is not yet past". |
