Is it better now than what it was at Paizo?

Farstar14 Oct 2009 12:45 p.m. PST

Its now "all 4th edition, all the time", so your opinion of the "magazine" (there is no paper edition anymore, just PDF) will be heavily influenced by your edition preference.

I miss the paper product. I enjoyed everything about the paper version, even the ads.

I've been told that it is pretty good. And, I do play 4th edition.

But, I haven't signed up for D&D insider (or the mags) because I'm not a big fan of digital "magazines" which go away if you decide to stop subscribing.

Paizo's magazine looks pretty good, but our group has gone with 4E so there's not much point in getting it.

Me too, wargamer1972. The death of the print magazine really dampened my enthusiasm for all things D&D, I think.

I've got the print issues back to issue #32….hmmm….

I miss it.

I've got print issues back to #250, and the CD collection from 1 to 250, including all The Strategic Review issues. I sold everything I had up to 250 once I got the CD.

As for what it's like now, I can't say. I was downloading the issues of Dungeon and Dragon that WotC were doing when it was still free and it was up to their usual production values. As for content, it was mostly meh… This was also when it was still 3.5 and not 4th ed though.

In response to an earlier post, if these are downloadable pdfs, they should still be accessible once you stop subscribing, if you've downloaded them. I still have all the files I downloaded before they started charging for it. They are still working fine.

I really miss the paper product and refuse to subscribe to a pdf magazine. I'm on the computer all day at work, I don't want my leisure time spent on the computer also.
It was always cool going to my mailbox and wondering if my Dragon would be in there. Now it's just bills. *sigh*

They're PDFs, so yeah, you can download and save them. They're also landscape formatted so they're a bit easier to read on wider screen monitors. They also print just fine on my cheap monochrome laser printer. Is it as good as a print magazine? Nope. Is it still worth the money? Not quite. The character builder and the monster builder are what seals the deal for me.
