Split off from this earlier thread: TMP link Given the recent polls and discussions on various related rule sets, I thought it might be time to revisit this topic, last polled in March 2008. Respondents could choose to vote for up to five from the following: Age of Battles: Middle Ages Ancient & Medieval Wargaming Arcane Battle Composer Arcane Warfare Armati Basic Impetus Battle Troll Blood & Chivalry Bloody Barons Chainmail Crusader Cry Havoc Day of Battle Days of Knights De Bellis Antiquitatis De Bellis Multitudinis De Bellis Magistrorum Militum Field of Glory Flower of Chivalry Glutter of Ravens Hack in the Dark Hex Command: Ancients Hoplon Impetus Ironbow Knight Hack Knightly Fightly l'Art de la Guerre Medieval Warfare Might of Arms Montjoie Pig Wars Piquet: Band of Brothers Revenge Shattered Lances Strandhogg Tactica Medieval The Art of War The Rules According to Ral Warhammer Ancient Battles Warlord II Warmaster Ancients Warrior WRG ancients 6th edition WRG ancients 7th edition Other: Historical Other: Fantasy Other: House Rules I think it would be very interesting to compare the results with those from the 2008 combined poll: TMP link Cheers, Scott |

Hi Another poll, where here on TMP we often discuss Art of war, such that Rich sometimes makes jokes
but still doesn't make the poll? Rocky |
brevior est vita | 13 Oct 2009 12:38 p.m. PST |
The Art of War (title as printed on the cover) is indeed on the list, right above The Rules According to Ral While compiling the lists, I did consider the problem of rules titles beginning with definite articles. After trying out various possibilities, I finally opted to include "De Bellis" rules in the D's, "l'Art de la Guerre" in the L's, and rules beginning with "The" in the T's. Not an ideal solution, perhaps, but at least it is internally consistent. Cheers, Scott |

If Rocky votes on this suggested followup poll, "THE Art of War" will get TWO votes instead of one." :) |

Do you mean Cry Havoc by Standard Game (1981)? It was suggested as an addition to the list. Although essentially a board game, like C&C: Ancients, apparently CH is also sometimes played using miniatures. Cheers, Scott |

The Tony Bath Rules Armati WAB |
brevior est vita | 09 Dec 2009 6:16 a.m. PST |
The full title for the original version of Tony Bath's rules is "Peltast and Pila: Rules for Ancient Wargaming 300 B.C. to 500 A.D." I have added it to the proposed ancients poll, but unless the new publication has been expanded to include the medieval period, it would not appear to fit in this one. An updated list for this poll would include: A Fistfull of Miniatures Age of Battles: Middle Ages Ager Sanguinis Ancient & Medieval Wargaming Ancients D6 Arcane Battle Composer Arcane Warfare Armati Basic Impetus Battle Troll Blood & Chivalry Bloody Barons Chainmail Comitatus Crusader Cry Havoc Day of Battle Days of Knights De Bellis Antiquitatis De Bellis Multitudinis De Bellis Magistrorum Militum Field of Glory Flower of Chivalry Glutter of Ravens Hack in the Dark Hex Command: Ancients Hoplon Impetus Ironbow Knight Hack Knightly Fightly l'Art de la Guerre Medieval Warfare Might of Arms Montjoie Newbury Fast Play Rules for Medieval and Renaissance Warfare Pig Wars Piquet: Band of Brothers Retinue Revenge Shattered Lances Strandhogg Tactica Medieval The Art of War The Rules According to Ral War Games Rules 3000 B.C.-1250 A.D. 5th edition War Games Rules 3000 BC to 1485 AD 6th edition War Games Rules 3000 BC to 1485 AD 7th edition Warhammer Ancient Battles Warlord II Warmaster Ancients Warrior Other: Historical Other: Fantasy Other: House Rules Cheers, Scott |
