I've started working on modeling some Obliterators for my Chaos Space Marine army to be renegade Techmarines. I've got some pictures up on my blog today. They're okay, but I think I need to Chaos-ify them more. Any ideas how I could make them fit in better with the look of the Chaos marines? I've added a few spikes and skulls, but I think I may need more. Comments are greatly appreciated. link |

I really like what you have done. I too am in need of adding a heavy support option but don't really care for the Obliterator models. I have some older Chaos Marines lying around that I may have to copy your idea. I don't think you need to add more "Chaos Bitz", just paint them up in the same colors as your army so they blend in and all will be good. Please post pics once painted, I would like to see how these turn out! Chris |

That is a good idea, I HATE the concept for the obliterators. Your idea makes sense to me. The renegade forces would have more 'mirror' units, like they did in the RT days. They need tech priests just as much as the Imperium, I'm sick of the idea that demons have to be inhabiting everything and everyone. Frankly I'd just paint them in a unifying color scheme, are they going to waste their time tricking out their weapons or decorating their armor with skulls and spikes? |

Thank you for the input, everyone. No, perhaps they wouldn't waste their time decorating their armor with skulls and spikes. Especially since between battles I'm sure they'd be busy fixing vehicles and equipment, and figuring out how to carry more weapons. On the other hand, according to every miniature and piece of artwork, every other Chaos Space Marine spends most of his downtime decorating his armor with skulls and spikes. Time flows different in the warp, so maybe they have a lot of downtime and get bored. Of course, loyalist marines must spend a lot of time painting detailed iconography and attaching purity seals to their armor. I'll be sure to post pictures when I get around to painting them, but it might be a while. Especially since I want to try and get my hands on a third Techmarine model to make a full unit of 3 of these guys. |

Space Marines of all stripes seems to spend a good deal of their free time on personal adornment. Your models look pretty "chaotic" as they are. GW tends to go a little (a lot) overboard on the spikes/skulls on "evil" figures. A friend of mind once defined the difference between an army and its chaotic or dark counterpart thus, "these guys are spikey, and therefore evil." No one is going to mistake those Techmarines for loyalists, with a suitable paint scheme they should fit right in with other renegades. |
