I have an urge to do Black Hawk Down in 15mm. Who does Somalis in that scale? The closest I can find are fedayeen or PLO types from Rebel Minis and Peter Pigg. Thanks

Cannonfodder Miniatures makes a line.

I seem to recall Old Glory does, too.

Peter Pig's Ragged Militia work pretty well for Somalis, too, IMO.

Some of the militia figs from PP should work fine.

Basically, any of their armed rabble should do.

Add in some unarmed civvies to mix in with the armed troops, to make life difficult for the regular troops.

Peter Pig are good (and make great US personnel), but Cannonfodder make great Somalis. They make US and Afghans, too.

Flashpoint is relaunching and have a very nice range of Somali militia…I'll be stocking them of course.

I have the Cannonfodder and they are very cool.

I looked into the Flashpoint. They are excellent figures, but I saw they are also 17mm so perhaps too big to mix and match?

Here's the link to the Cannonfodder (now from Blaze Away).

I suggest you also check out their "Contractors".

The Flashpoint range was 17mm, but there was talk of them rescaling to 15mm to match their Vietnam range. That was before the extended sabbatical so not sure what happened. Nice figures but quite expensive.

The CFM range were again at the higher end of market for pricing and I recall that their Deltas were noticeably bigger. Don't know if that applied to other ranges.

We have recently started to improve and expand our modern infantry, with the release of new modern Brits, Germans and Afghans, but are tending to steer away from the irregular forces, focussing instead on regular armies (Chinese, Canadian and French to come).

Although the Somali dress s quite distinctive, a good mixture of dress, poses and even sizes should help give that complete irregular look.

The Peter Pig modern african figures are a good start, not just militia but the regular types too. They've even got a mixture of AKs and G3s.

You do just have to have a unit of blokes wiedling stolen TV sets though.

Cannonfodder look nice, but ninety cents US a figure … That seems a little steep to me … Mark … are the Flashpoint figures indeed on the large side?

GeoffQRF10 Oct 2009 12:11 p.m. PST

As originally released, the Flashpoint Middle East range was definitely scaled bigger, and released as 17-18mm compared to the announced 15mm scale of their Vietnam range.

Anton had said that they were to be withdrawn and rereleased with new 15mm masters, but I don't know if that ever took place (before or after the range was sold on) or if the range on offer is the original larger scale offering (which I could be wrong about, but vaguely recall seeing comments that they were closer matched to small 20mm than larger 15s)

…on the other hand, does it really matter if they are bigger? : picture

I have a couple dozen of Peter Pig's and would definately recommend them.

The Flashpoint Miniature Somalis are 15mm, as are the Rangers and Delta's. All three are currently available. There will also be "Jihad Insurgents" and Taliban released very soon as well, all in 15mm.

If anyone has had a good look at the Flashpoint Somalis . . .

I would love for someone to make 3 or 4 packs of 15-17mm Somali pirates like these:
