Just been for one of my periodic visits and unless i'm being a lot denser than normal (which takes some doing) it looks to me like Gary has decide to pull the plug on the site If this is indeed the case i'd like to take this opportunity to thank Gary for having providing an outstanding "one stop shop" for WW2 organisational data – it will be sorely missed by me at least Guess i'd better check the internet archive archive.org/index.php for all those pages I wish i'd saved on my hard drive but never got around to

Nope- works for me- just visited it. |

OK for me and I refreshed a few times. Gary Kennedy is a TMPer, BTW. -- Tim |

OK for me maybe it just Yanks and Southern Gentlefolk will a problem ? |
aecurtis | 08 Oct 2009 4:15 p.m. PST |
No, only the front page is accessible now, and Gary indicates that he's given up on maintaining the site. There are popups and advertising, too, that weren't there before. The new page may have propagated to some places, and not to others yet. Allen |

Got the new page now :-(( |

"That means the site won't change, won't evolve, won't add anything to the discussion anymore. Also, the use of the internet to host the site has meant I've spent a lot of time on various forums and discussion boards, I even added one to the old Stormpages version of the site for a spell. Such places are truly double edged weapons. People can be astonishingly helpful and knowledgeable and willing to share information. Others can be incredibly arrogant, self opinionated and possessed of a view of world history that you wonder if they've come from an alternate timeline. That's the way of the world of course, and probably describes the average radio football phone in show. Still, I'm tired of such things." From the site itself. Robert |

I've lost track of how many times I'd referred a questioner to the site. What are we going to do now? Allen |
Ditto Tango 2 1 | 08 Oct 2009 8:13 p.m. PST |
Geez, Allen, you're right – I didn't check past the front page. Yes, what to do now

I'm very sad to see it go too. Half of me hopes Gary will relent and at least allow the information to stay up, even if he can't find the time and energy to maintain and update it. But at the same time I accept that it's his decision and one he's no doubt reached for his own personal reasons. In the future I mean to take such things less for granted and save more of the information I need. Thanks to Gary for a lot of hard work and an invaluable resource. It may all have been secondary sources but it was a good collation of what was available and he backed it up with references for those who wanted to check. |

I have a private server located in a Los Angeles datacenter, which is pretty much idle at the moment. I would be happy to host the data, if Gary doesn't mind. How could I go around contacting him? |
Skarper | 08 Oct 2009 10:17 p.m. PST |
He's on TMP as Gary Kennedy. You could try a PM? |
Kraussian | 08 Oct 2009 11:21 p.m. PST |
I noticed that Gary isn't a Supporting Member, so I can't PM him. I'll try emailing him at the address on the bottom of his main page. |

I printed out some 50 plus pages last year on small unit info and other items of interest. Wish I had saved more. |
Stevus | 09 Oct 2009 12:19 p.m. PST |
Just in case he pops in to TMP and reads this thread i would like to thank Gary for all the time and effort he put into the bayonet strength site. It was an extremely clear and useful resource and one i have been very grateful for over the last few years. I hope he manages to find a new hobby :) |
tmy 1939 | 09 Oct 2009 12:49 p.m. PST |
Another just in case Gary Kennedy has a chance to read this thread. Thank you for all the effort and time you put into your site, it was a excellent resource that I've made use of countless times. Thanks again. |
RobH | 09 Oct 2009 1:59 p.m. PST |
Agreed, wonderful resource that it would be a shame to lose. I hope the data can be moved elsewhere. |
Pizzagrenadier | 09 Oct 2009 7:00 p.m. PST |
Another thanks to Gary. My projects would not have been possible without your site. Thank you for the work you have done making this info accessible and easy to use. |
zoneofcontrol | 09 Oct 2009 7:36 p.m. PST |
Wow, what a gold mine of information. I've only been gaming for about 5 or 6 years but I've used the site many, many, many times to work out a scenario, tactics or equipment question. Gary, if you read this a big Thank You for what you did to help get me started and stay up and running in my little corner of the world. Best of luck to you in whatever you move on to. |
jdginaz | 09 Oct 2009 9:18 p.m. PST |
Where is Wyatt the Odd? I believe that Gary is a member of the yahoo groups To&E that Wyatt helps monitor. He probably could help get a hold of Gary. Really would hate to lose so much good work. Whatever happens thanks Gary your site has been a big help to me over the last couple of years. jdg |
iAugustus | 10 Oct 2009 2:42 a.m. PST |
It would be really sad to see the site go. It has been a VERY usefull reference for me over the years. I'd like to thank Gary for setting it up in the first place in public in addition to thanks I've sent him thourgh the years in private. Thank you very much, Gary! iA |

There's some good news. I've been able to contact Gary through e-mail, and he's given me the go-ahead to provide BayonetStrength with a new home. I've received his data files, and have started setting up the new website. It should be ready by this weekend. Gary sends his regards to everyone in TMP! |

I hadn't been to the website in awhile, but I'd found it to be a great resource in the past. Thank you Kraussian, and many thanks to Gary as well. |

How are you guys progressing with the tranfer?? Any snags? I would offer to help but I doubt there's much I can do that you can't already do better and faster! |
Kraussian | 18 Oct 2009 5:48 p.m. PST |
Well, I had misjudged the sheer amount of information that Gary had compiled over the years. The transfer is going on, but it may take a few more weeks before the new site is ready. I'm expecting the migration to be complete by November. |
Skarper | 18 Oct 2009 7:45 p.m. PST |
Wow!! But it figures given how much the site grew over time. I'll just have to be patient
. |
Wyatt the Odd | 19 Oct 2009 12:57 p.m. PST |
I just found that I'd been paged. It looks like Kraussian has things well under control but I'll PM him to see if there's anything the TO&Es list can do to help. Wyatt |
tmy 1939 | 19 Oct 2009 2:28 p.m. PST |
Great news, thank you Kraussian for saving that resource for the rest of us. |

My thanks to all as well, for setting it all up in the first place – such an excellent reference site – and for the work to preserve it in the future. |

Thanks to everyone that has worked on the web site in the past. I always enjoyed it. |

Just like to add my thanks to Gary for all his work over the years and a first class site. Very sorry to see it go. |
Kraussian | 26 Oct 2009 5:33 p.m. PST |
Some of you may have noted that bayonetstrength.150m.com is back up now. Looks like all of our enthusiastic responses have convinced Gary that the site is still very much in need, and has rekindled his interest! My work on the new site is now almost complete, but I guess it has become redundant. |
Skarper | 26 Oct 2009 8:51 p.m. PST |
It's great to have this site back. I'm not sure if the intention is still to migrate to a new site or if Gary will keep going with the old site? Anyway – glad ot see it back up. |
Stevus | 27 Oct 2009 2:06 p.m. PST |
Yippee ! Thanks to both Gary for restoring most of the site and Kraussian for his efforts |
Kraussian | 27 Oct 2009 5:30 p.m. PST |
Well, the new site is at bayonetstrength.com Assuming that Gary will no longer be around to update the content, I had taken the decision to turn it into a moderated wiki, so that a handful of knowledgeable editors would maintain it. Although it's become redundant, we've (Gary and I) decided that maybe that's a good thing. The new site will serve as a sort of mirror/backup in case anything goes wrong with the main bayonetstrength.150m.com And some may actually prefer the wiki format I've used
|
Skarper | 27 Oct 2009 10:35 p.m. PST |
Good to have 2 homes for all this. Thanks again to all involved. I like the wiki format – though there was nothing worng with Gary's layout. |

Resurecting this post as the Bayonetstrength sites appear to have gone again <sob!> Any ideas folks?? |
Starfury Rider | 17 Jun 2016 9:37 a.m. PST |
I'm afraid that the host, 150m.com, finally went kaput last month, though I never got the alleged email giving warning. There was an outdated cached version still available till recently, but that's gone too now. I'll cast round for a new host at some point, but right now I've got family priorities to address. There's a fairly recent version available on waybackmachine, so anyone looking for stuff from the original can find it there. Cheers Gary |
fozman | 19 Jun 2016 10:36 a.m. PST |
Thanks for the link, Gary… hope you get the family issues sorted & the site back up |
andysyk | 21 Jun 2016 4:14 a.m. PST |
Yes hope to see the site back up, it is a great database. Thanks Gary. Does anyone have a link to the waybackmachine link I cant find it? |
