Sort of a driven Van Helsing character set in the 17th Century. Not entirely historical, IMO. ;-)

I read a few dire reviews a couple weeks ago but lately everything I've heard has been pretty positive.

It's not supposed to be. The character is from a series of fantasy stories by Robert E. Howard.

KnightTemplarr06 Oct 2009 9:50 p.m. PST

Shadow-

He was a 16th Century Puritan Hero in the stories…which are certainly fantasy. I wasn't sure what you meant by fantasy.

Looks cool to me. But I'll wait for the dvd.

What kind of swords is he using? I couldn't really see if they had a guard or not. I just hope they are not katanas!

Any idea of the proposed rating?

Ganesha Games: I hope you've got your finger poised over the "jump on promotional bandwagon" button for your Fear & Faith rules?

I'm there. I confess I always liked Solomon Kane more than Conan.

I don't half feel like I've seen the entire picture after that trailer.

Still, look forward to seeing it on DVD.

I don't think the movie plot is from a canonical story, but what the heck. the producers talk of sequels involving the canon.
The first review that Ganesha Games links to is extremely promising. No fooling around, just a darn good Weird Tales pulp movie. You can't ask for more than that. It seems to be free from metaphor! My kind of movie.

Looks great to me (very Morheimish). Since we had Conan in 1982 & now Solomon Kane in 2009, dare we hope for Bran Mac Morn in 2036?

Wargamer4321007 Oct 2009 8:28 a.m. PST

Sweet! I've always loved Robert E. Howard's characters!

Highland Guerilla07 Oct 2009 10:20 a.m. PST

I'm glad I picked up savage worlds Solomon Kane and have my old witch hunters painted up,toss in a few ghouls and hounds salt with a demon and a damsel about to be sacrificed and away ye go.

Poor old Carmina Burana.

huevans07 Oct 2009 1:30 p.m. PST

I'm a little confused. If this is supposed to be set in the ECW, shouldn't the Evil Prince have a poodle? I didn't see a poodle in the trailer.

>He was a 16th Century Puritan Hero in the stories…which are certainly fantasy. I wasn't sure what you meant by fantasy.<

The Solomon Kane stories originally appeared in a "pulp magazine" titled "Weird Tales" which published stories in what are commonly referred to as the "horror" and "fantasy" genres. SK stories are of the "fantasy" genre in "pulp magazines".

KnightTemplarr07 Oct 2009 7:41 p.m. PST

I wasn't sure if you meant fantasy as in elves and dwarves. And not a Purtain in stories set on our world…

Arabianknight
actually my idea of producing games came in a period where I was re-reading the SK stories… my first attempt at the current song of blades system was a horror/SK setting and I wanted to play it in 15mm, and someone here pointed me to Splintered light miniatures… (they have a witch hunter in the Archer colection). The core rules, the idea of the characters attempting to do multiple actions etc are all in it. Then I realized that there were few 15mm horror figures (again this is changing… thanks to SLM and Khurasan miniatures)and I switched the focus to fantasy.

What IS promsing about this movie is that it seems to take the character seriously EVEN if it is not faithful to the books. Probably the REH stories are all too short for a two hour movie.

The Shadow08 Oct 2009 3:55 p.m. PST

>Probably the REH stories are all too short for a two hour movie.<

"Queen of the Black Coast" could be expanded. Or other adventures could be strung together to make one film.

The Shadow08 Oct 2009 3:59 p.m. PST

Sorry Ganesha..I thought you were referring to any and all REH stories. On re-reading I see that you meant SK.

Strider10 Oct 2009 8:36 a.m. PST

Looks like my kind of movie thanks for the post

Great potential for an 18th century treatment.

"Not ready for Hell". I like that.

Does anyone know the release date?

basileus6607 Nov 2009 5:33 a.m. PST

I am a little bit confused. In the Wiki entry for the movie they say that Solomon is a XVIth Century puritan, but in the film the clothes look like XVIIth Century… Is it a confussion of the Wiki? Or, perhaps, it's me who is mistaken about puritan fashion?

Thanks
