I'm building up a Republican Roman force using irregular Miniatures 25/28mm figures. The officers come with a standard hanging from a "T" shaped pole. Any suggestions as to appropriate devices? |

Try here: link This site has done a 360 and definitly looks better, unfortuantly I can't find the color plates of the Roman Standards. They had about 10 different ones. I downloaded them a few years back and hooked up my legions. |

This page on that website: link has some details of the images used on vexilla (the standards that hang from a t-shaped pole). Good site with lots of information and excellent photographs, by the way. Thanks. Cheers, David nba-sywtemplates.blogspot.com |

The web sites above are very good, but it should be borne in mind that the standards (signa militaria) employed by the legions of the Republic were significantly different from those used during the Empire. Bill Thayer's site has some good info: link This pic ( link ) from the Xyston Miniatures web site gives a good sense of the range of signa in use during the Republic, from the earliest bundle of straw for each maniple, to the legionary minotaur, wolf, horse, boar and eagle mentioned by Pliny the Elder ( link ), to the vexillum. We have no idea what devices were used on vexilla during the Republic, although you probably wouldn't go too far wrong with either the number of the consular legion (I-IIII), or one of the five legionary animals.
