Hi, Western knights were employed in the byzantine armies as allies, though some were italians, germans, french, and spaniards. Can someone tell which figures comes in close to represent(in 28mm)western knights under late byzantine command. The main force is Gripping beast Another question is a Nikephorian byzantine army = thematic period ? + Theodorian Byzantine = Komnenian period Regards Armand |

Depends on how late you mean. Gripping Beast Normans/1st Crusade knights would work for the earliest Latinikoi, while mounted knights from their 'Later Crusades' range would be OK for 13th/14th century Latinikoi. 'Nikephorian Byzantine' (ie WRG/DBX terminology) = 'Macedonian Dynasty Thematic Byzantine' in the WAB 'Beyond the Golden Gate' supplement. What WRG 6th Edition army lists called 'Theodoran Byzantines' would probably be 'Paleologan Byzantine' under DBX, or 'The Last Byzantines' in the WAB 'Age of Chivalry' WAB supplement. Cheers, Paul. |

I guess the question is how knights fighting for the Byzantines differ from the normal run of western knights. Did they have any equipment/clothing from the Byzantines? Any regularisation of colours? Shields? I can't help, but would love to know the answers too :o) |
