Does anyone have any information on this? Forlorn Hope Guide to Battle of Newbury lists them in the OB, but doesn't give a coat color. There's a reference to them on the Sealed Knot site indicating dark blue coats, but it's not clear. Any information would be appreciated. |

Hello Bede, Belasyse's first regiment of foot (Oxford army) that was at Edgehill and I Newbury was passed on to Sir Theophilus Gilby at the end of 1643 when Belasyse went up North to join Newcastle's army. It was probably either redcoats or bluecoats as an Oxford army regiment that received the 1643 clothing issue. I don't know which though! Belasyse meanwhile raised another foot regiment in the North, that was decimated at Selby, commanded the remains of the Selby foot at York, then may have formed yet another regiment when he was in command of Newark garrison. I don't think coat colours for these units are known. |
