link Asian/UK releases have been mentioned elsewhere on TMP, but now it's crossed the pond. Looks like a lot of good, over-the-top Han dynasty battles with "heroic" one-on-one combat. Get ready for lots of "Who makes Han dynasty figs in XXmm?" questions. |

It is a lot of fun
one battle scene is a sequence of 'unleash the next player character'

If you can, get a copy of the original movies as they were released in China. WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY better than what's going to be playing in the west. In China, Red Cliff is two 1 1/2 hour long movies, which for western release is being cut down to a 1 1/2 hour movie. A huge amount of backstory that most westerners don't know is going to be lost which is a shame since they are both great movies. I watched both of them in one sitting, then watched them again the next day. AWESOME MOVIES. Best I've seen so far about ancient China. If you can get genuine copies on DVD then do so, or just torrent them. |

Oh yeah, you might also want to check out the two TV series for Romance of the Three Kingdoms as well, both are excellent and well worth getting. Mitsuteru yokoyama's sangokushi (47 episodes) and San guo yan yi (84 episodes) imdb.com/title/tt0421486 imdb.com/title/tt0108914 |

Wasn't Mr Woo involved in Wind Talkers? If so, that would warn me off this flick. Of course, I could be confusing him with someone else? -- Tim |

. NNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Red Cliff is awesome! Forget that POS Windtalkers ever existed, that was Hollywood trash. Red Cliff is a Chinese production, not Hollywood, so it didn't get screwed up. The only problem with it for the Western release is that they edited it into one film so you lose a lot of story and background history. Besides, most western audiences just want a lot of fighting and battles anyway. Like I said in my previous post, if you can get hold of the original unedited versions watch those instead. Find them online, buy them, and if you can't then torrent them. This film is well worth seeing in it's original form. |

I hope this US release will kick up some interest in wargaming this era. The Late Han era, in which the "Romance of Three Kingdoms" is based on, has some fantastic battles which I believe will translate well to wargames. In fact, the Japanese game company Koei creates an awesome computer-based strategy game that's been popular in the market since the DOS days. |

I would love to see some multi-piece plastics come about because of this. |

Yes, the full versions have been out here for well over a year, in Chinese but subtitled in English. Fun movies with lots of spectacular massed army scenes, though once battle starts the action gets pretty silly, with one 'hero' being worth whole regiments of soldiers. |

Only if you use heroes. I don't. I'm not really a fan of wirework battles. The whole "I know Kung-fu so suddenly I'm a flying god of battle" thing doesn't really work for me. |
