I am looking to convert a mini for my game and he is a Goliath shaman, unfortunately. What metal mini would make a good starting point for my conversion? BTW this is in 28mm. Thanks for any help.

How big does this "goliath" need to be?

Cyrus the Great02 Oct 2009 6:42 p.m. PST

It would help if you were to mention that the "Goliath" is a Necromunda gang.

In this case I think he's referring to the 4e D&D character race 'goliath' which are big, mountain-colored, tattooed dudes who have an affinity for the earth and land.

Unfortunately, 'shaman' does not usually go together with 'big dude' in fantasy miniature stereotyping. I would look at Reaper's lines (both Warlord and Dark Heaven) for barbarian types that are oversized 28mm (they have several) and seem more shaman-esque in terms of armor, weaponry, etc. Also check the Warcrow fantasy miniature line; they have several figs that might fit what you want (The Warstore has them on clearance).

Yeah, sorry it is the 4e race I'm looking for. I will have to check out the War store. Thanks.

D'oh!

Also take a look at the Skarrd for the game Dark Age. They tend to be a big tall and gangly, and there is at least one Shaman type. The techno bits should be easy to remove.

In OOP minis lines, you could hunt around for an Earthdawn Obsidiman.

I use Heresy's Big Boris figure as a Goliath barbarian, but it may be a good jumping-off point to converting a shaman.

Heresy's Big Boris: link

A couple of my Borises as a Goliaths: picture

The figure stands about 40mm tall, so is about perfect height-wise. Also, Heresy is having a big sale (but orders may be a touch delayed.)

Reaper also has a half-giant figure: link
About the same size as the Heresy figure.

So they are not necessarily shaman figures, but at least there are size-appropriate figures that can be converted.

Big Boris does make a good Goliath. Like the kill markings grin

WOW, evilcartoonist. Those are awesome! Thank you for sharing those.

There is a figure in the Hordes Skorne faction that would be appropriate. Its a cyclops though.

Farstar05 Oct 2009 11:18 a.m. PST

The Skorne Cyclops is actually too big, being some 2" tall or more. A Goliath should be in the 35-40mm range, obviously bald, and with the normal number of joints (which leaves out those not-Greys from Vor).
