I just purchased a couple of sets of battle masters the old board game from ebay for the maps and miniatures. Many of the empire halberdiers from the set had broken weapons, so I looked through my bits, and found a bunch of empire arms from around 2000-2001 that worked beautifully as arm swaps. When I went to buy more from ebay I found that a whole new generation of empire plastics have been released.

So I was wondering if anyone has any photos comparing the battle masters empire minis with the current generation of empire plastics. If thats not possible, then if there is anyone with any experience with both could share with me how well they match up.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

We're two generations of releases past Battlemasters and the very similar Empire Halbardiers released by GW the same year.

The Battlemasters halbardiers are quite static, as you know, while the newer Empire are a lot more dynamic. The Battlemasters figs also come from the "heroic ideal" period at GW, and look like paradeground troops. The current set of Empire troops have scars, bad teeth, rough clothes, and squints.

In addition to Farstar's comments, I'll venture that the current Empire troops are a bit larger than their Battlemaster brethern. Not enough to bother me, but there is a difference. The biggest difference for me, though, is definitely the static versus animated poses of the different figures.

I'm using the current Empire knights set along with Battlemasters knights and old metal reiksgard and knights panthers models and they match well. But that's one of the oldest boxes in the current range IIRC. The militia(Mordheim) minis match ok for size if not as well for style. Unfortunately I never bought the newest state troops or gold swords so I don't know how they match.

The halberd shafts and blades are quite different between the current 7th edition versions and the 5th/6th edition and older versions. The newer ones have shafts that are much thicker and the halberd blades and spike are more swept and pointy. I don't think they will mix well, but could possibly be made to work with a little effort.

I'm actually building a bunch of the 5th/6th edition halberdiers as I don't like the look of the pose on the current 7th edition, it's just not how I picture halberds being weilded. The older ones are pretty hard to get a hold of, it seems lots of Empire players don't like the current halderds. Sorry I don't have any extras, I'm going to have to resort to the militia halberds to finish off the last couple men.

There recently was a large plastic bag of these arms sold on eBay, but I didn't want to pay more than $20 USD just to get a couple extra. I've been watching for the last week and haven't seen any posted since.

I am so sorry gentleman I wasnt very clear in my intial post. I am replacing the arms holding the halberds at the shoulder, with arms from the empire militia set, and state troop set circa 2000-2001. The weapons that there placement arms are holding are just hand weapons(axes, hammers, clubs) and swords. The arms from those sets match up very well with the battle masters bodies, I just dont have enough of the for the 60 or so arms that I need to replace. So before I buy any arms off of ebay from the current sets I was wondering if they would be too big.

So I guess my real question is are the arms from the empire militia set and 2000-2001 state troopers sets equivalent in size to the current empire state troopers.

If you guys want I can share pictures of some of the conversions I have done to give a clearer picture.

@ Delthos I have a bunch of the 6th edition halberd heads and pole with attached arms that I would happily trade you for swords from the same set.

Battlemasters models were more of the "true 25mm" nature (to the eyes).

Current GW models are of the "extra-EXTRA HEROIC 28mm" or more close to 32-33mm.

So I'll guess no, the parts you want to switch will not match at all.

Previous models may be a better fit, but as you have already discovered, not so easy to find.

Hope that helps.

The current militia and the State Troops from 5th/6th edition are compatable, as are the new State Troops. Their style is different though, so the look will be different. If you were already using the 5th/6th edition troops for your conversions you should be alright.

Oninotaki, I'd definitely like to take you up on that offer. Please send me an email at prozinskij@yahoo.com. We can discuss matters there!
