This 200th Anniversary weekend event will be celebrating events in the year of 1809. Features include re-enactors from the 95th Rifles (as seen in "Sharpe"), plus several French Infantry Regts from Bonaparte's Imperial Army. The Royal Armouries' original working Napoleonic Guns will be giving live firing demonstrations throughout the weekend, and there will be a large 28mm figure scale diorama of the Battle of Waterloo. Also included on the agenda is a celebration of Regency music, dance, and games, together with an open invitation to a Regency picnic in the formal gardens. The 16th International Napoleonic Fair will be held in a Georgian mansion that was built in 1720 for George Pitt after he married into the last of the Grey family. They owned the great Elizabethan Manor house which is now privately owned. The extensive grounds will host the military re-enactments and living history encampments, bringing the area alive with the sights and sounds of the Napoleonic era. Come and learn some more about the Napoleonic Wars, meet up with Bonaparte's men, or talk to a redcoat or a green-jacketed rifleman from Wellington's Peninsula army before they embark for Portugal. There will be a battle display as well as drill demonstrations, and a chance for you to wander through the military encampments and experience what life was like for the soldiers of this period. link |
