I've always had a soft spot for the JadgPanther so when Battlefront released a special boxed set with five of the cute little beasties in it, I couldn't resist! The models are really, really nice and I decided to put some extra effort into them. I'd bought an airbrush about a year ago to replace my old one which had worn out, but I had not used the new one yet. It was tricky to use, but the results turned out pretty nice. I painted them a base of Vallejo Middlestone and then did the camo in Flat Brown and Reflective Green. Once dry, I gave them a wash of Minwax Polyshade brown. That had to dry for two days before I drybrushed them with a mixture of Middlestone and white. Then it was just a matter of picking out details and a bit of inking.

I don't suppose you've ever thought of doing some 1940 French. For a painter of your talent, the outcome would be something to behold.

Those look sweet indeed. The Jagdpanther has always been one of my favorites … it just looks dangerous.

They turned out very nice! I am doing some Tiger Is in the same camouflage scheme but without an airbrush. Yours look very good. They are a good motivation for me to get going!

Very nicely done!

Lovely looking beasts!

To make them look even better, it is the much coveted (at least by me) "Early" variant.

Thanks for sharing.

Must trundle off to order some.

Lovely work. If they ever need a good home send them my way.

lovely work Scott, what extras do you get in the boxed set?

ScottWashburn Sponsoring Member of TMP29 Sep 2009 12:50 p.m. PST

Thanks! (And to you all!) Sadly, that's the one disappointment with the set. There really aren't any extras aside from a lot of left-over hatches and road wheels and track segments that I think are from the normal Panther model. Unlike BF's great Tiger set, the models are not customized to be different. They are five identical models. Any customization is left to the modeler and aside from adding or leaving off the side skirts (or parts of them) and adding stowage, there isn't a lot you can do with these that doesn't involve a lot of extra work. Oh, there is a decal sheet included :) I guess because this ia a mail-order-only set they didn't feel they had to include a lot of extras.

Scott, how do you get the vallejo's to flow through your airbrush? I've been trying for years and the damned stuff just clogs my iwata and cheap as chips spamax brush.

And great work too!

I thined it down more than 50% with water although I know some people recommend using Windex instead. Actually, I primed them with white Armory spray paint and then applied the Middlestone with a brush, so I only sprayed the brown and the green. The green came out a bit thin and didn't cover as well as I would like. I was also struggling because the moisture trap I had bought wasn't working (I have a new one now, although I haven't tried it yet). I didn't have any trouble with clogs with the thinned paint. There's no way it would flow un-thinned.

Really, really, really, really, really nice work. They are beaufitully done.
